So, let me try and understand where you're coming from. As I see it, you're saying that a game called STALKER, which is set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, about a group of people who constantly wage a war against one another and nature itself for survival and prosperity, which is designed to invoke terror and uneasiness with the knowledge that you are alone and friendless in an environment that considers you to be nothing more than a bacterial infection...is bad because it has no Co-op. Is that correct?
As a human myself I don't kill my 'teammate', 'allie', 'neighbor' even if i don't trust them, because I may need some sugar from them and wasting a box-full of ammo to get to grocery store would be idiot. Also, survival isn't about killing everything that moves, it is about staying alive, that is a 'defensive attitude', that's were the beauty of watching our back help. And prosperity isn't achieved alone. A solo person may be stealthier, but also a much easier target.
May not be the best example ever, Left 4 Dead... they are 4 peoples who doesn't know jack about each other at first, but I'm sure prefers having them on their team than being alone. And see, they do progress in their survival and may reach prosperity.
I'm sure you can still be terrified and uneasy while playing WITH a friend. Again, I'm not saying STALKER is a bad game. I'll give it another try later, I just dislike the One-Man Ar... well the Lone Wanderer part which, honestly, didn't give me more chills than frustration.
No hard feeling. I'm not a professional critic, but I do beleive that cooperative gameplay is underrated and many games like STALKER would have benefit from it.
