forgive me if i sound insulting, but do you seriously believe that it can be realized as a game? most trek fans would buy it of course but that is a rather marginal income for such an expansive game. there are far greater chances of it being realized as a text rpg.
Bioware. Case closed.
Plenty of Dialogue and Diplomacy, but tell me one Star Trek movie where there was not a fight of some kind. Normally it will be ship combat, but ground crew combat happens, boarding happens - there is plenty of opportunity for a KotOR style Star Trek game, and it would sell reasonably well I'd think to the Mass Effect fans (Please don't do what they did to ME2 to it though. Not a bad game, but I don't think it would fit the Star Trek world too well for the fans, much like many were disappointed with the modern movie).

Haven't really played any Star Trek games, but I'm giving it to Star Wars, because the only Star Trek game I've heard of getting really popular was Star Trek Online, and that's only because it was a massive flop.KotOR,TOR,Battlefront,Jedi Knight,TFU,those all created a stir because they were widely accepted as good games.

Star Trek doesn't really seem like it would lend itself well to most kinds of games. It's at the core a show about exploration, diplomacy, and thought experiments. That would be one dialogue-heavy game.
Your point is?

Oh yeah I forgot, games are all about shooting and fistfighting, and not about moral dilemmas, exploring the universe and the scientific and social progress of humanity.

Yes, of course it can be realised. And it already has been, in Judgement Rites and A Final Unity. Both games feature serious moral issues and philosophical questions, which was what Star Trek was all about.

A lot of those haven't hit AUS (Surpri... Yea, whatever) so I can't comment on all of them. On the ones I have played I'd say they're about equal. Star Trek Armada, Elite Force, Hidden Evil, Away Team. Not bad games. KOTOR (I'd prefer non-turn based combat but it's still fun), Force Commander, Battlefront /2, Galactic Battleground. All fun.

Actually one Star Wars game I played, Rogue Squadron? Not sure, you started out as a trader, eventually wound up taking on Star Destroyers. Wasn't Tie Fighter, could have been X-Wing. Either way, it was EVE O before that game was around. Great fun and wish I still had a copy. On that count Star Wars would win. Empire at War is on my wishlist so that tilts things in Star Wars favour.

Star Trek Armada. RTS, not as much dialogue. Lots of exploration and diplomacy, a few thought experiments.

Star Wars wins hands down for me. KOTOR games, TOR, Jedi Knight (Outcast/Academy, yes, the latter is drivel, but hell of a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer), Battlefront, Empire at War, X wing/TIE fighter, all really fantastic games I had a lot of fun with and in TOR's case, still do.

I honestly can't remember any good Trek games. I'll be completely fair and state that I much prefer the SW to ST though - I like some of the Star Trek stuff (old movies/series), but it's never really been something I was into, just a "lazy Sunday afternoon/evening in front of the TV" when I was growing up. Star Wars on the other hand is a franchise I really love and really, some of these games I find to be some of the top in their categories (KOTOR games among RPGs, JK games among action games [talking gameplay], X wing/TIE fighter are just freaking legendary and I'm finding TOR is starting to become my favourite MMO [though I have remarkably fond memory of WoW during TBC and Guild Wars during my early MMO days])

Starwars hands down. I enjoyed Armada, Elite force and StarFleet Command but ultimatly I think the Starwars games are more interesting. KotOR 1 and 2 are STILL 2 of the best RPG's ever made. Battlefield 1/2 and compelling enjoyable multi player and co-op. Republic Commando pre-dated basically all the games who really made the whole idea of 4 player campaign mode popular and did it well. Galactic Battle Grounds is just as compelling as the day it was released and I have always enjoyed all of the flight games. I cant even recall all the ones I have played, I just remember trying to get gold on the DeathStar Trench Run in the Naboo Starfighter, the fasted ship in the game by miles, without ever taking my finger off the accelerator button. No mean feat.

It's sort of tricky to design a game in a way that effectively models exploring the universe and the scientific and social progress of humanity. Not saying it's impossible, just saying that you run into issues with writing a bunch of hand-crafted dialogue vs. setting some rules and letting the game go from there. It's much easier to program a game to simulate a firefight (or a tennis match) than it is, for instance, to create an equivalent amount of content that is of similar focus and quality to 'Darmok.'

Star wars games I enjoyed
Star Wars: Jedi Knight II & III, MBII(mod)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic & II
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Star Wars: Battle for Naboo
Star Wars: Battlefront & II

Star Trek games I enjoyed
Star Trek: Elite Force
Star Trek: Armada & 2

Though not a game MBII mod for Jedi Knight Academy. It alone would win this battle for me. Im not really a fan of the Star Wars movies but the games are great. I do like Star Trek but Im going to stick to the movies & serieses.
