Star Trek Online Character Creator Revealed

Ever wanted to be a really ugly Ferengi, or a Vulcan with dreads? Well you might just get your wish with Star Trek Online, and more besides.

If you're the sort of person who had an opinion on whether Worf's hair looked better short or long - long for the win by the way - you're probably going to have a lot of fun with Star Trek Online's Character creator. According to Rock Paper Shotgun [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/12/18/star-trek-online-characters-creatored/], it's a pretty typical Cryptic character creator, in that it is amazingly detailed and a whole lot of fun.

As well as the established races, Humans, Andorians, Bajorans, Bolians, Vulcans, and newcomers to the federation, the Ferengi, is the ability to create a completely new race to play as, just like the pictured. With the established races, you have to stay within the realms of possibility, but if you make your own, the galaxy is your oyster. Want to put forehead ridges on a Ferengi's multi-lobed noggin? Go for it!

Star Trek Online will be available in February.

I wish I could care, no seriously I do - I like Star Trek games (Possibly my Masochistic streak showing there) but have a passionate hatred of your average online game player. Plus I like to buy a game, not rent it, so unless there's a free single player mode I'm not going to bother with it.

I'm not sure if STO will get the 'average' MMO gamer. Warcraft has the majority of thoughtless people, EVE has the majority of soulless spreadsheet people (formerly including myself).

Also, find a friend getting the collector's edition and ask for a buddy pass to try it out, then you can judge the society the game builds.

Seriously, the character creation system of WoW is not only five years old now, it was originally designed to not fry low-end systems.

It is almost like after 20 hours you can't see your character anymore thus making a huge character creator a waste of everyone's time and money.

Kind of like if you made a game with a revolutionary character creator then 30 minutes later the things you created were specs on the screen...

Yeah I'm talking about you SPORE...deal with it you *****. God that game makes me mad when I think about it.

Actually, you can turn off the display of any and all items that obscure your character in WoW.
Loads of ppl don't show their helmets, revealing their faces, but the problem is that they ALL share the same 8 freakin faces... sigh! Not very 2010...

Yes. It WAS 5 years ago that is was MADE originally. But they upgrade junk all the time, but adding a few options to your character stats is still the same as back then... I call that very, very lazy.

Clarification: You 'can' walk around your bridge, and Cryptic wants to add additional areas in patches later. Perhaps this isn't in Beta yet, but is planned for launch.

Clarification: You 'can' walk around your bridge, and Cryptic wants to add additional areas in patches later.

Can't you only walk around your bridge in certain missions?
