Let me preface this in that I've never really been all that much into Star Wars. So my reaction to this was more laughter than hatred. Seriously this feels like a 6yr olds toy comercial

I'm sorry I can't stop laughing.

And George still wonder why people still hate him? This is one of the reasons that sum it up.

That was actually pretty funny, lighten up guys, as Smash said the whole series is pretty much aimed at children anyway and Ep1 is probably the most kid-friendly of the lot.

Fair enough. This trailer isn't aimed at kids, though: it's aimed at parents. "Hey! Take your kid to this completely shallow and inoffensive movie. It'll keep them quiet (or at least not yelling at you) for two hours!"

This is a real trailer?!
I don't like the new Star Wars movies all that much, but this is stupid. I always thought the Phantom Menace was a bit childish though.

Exactly. On top of that, why does it matter? Kids are allowed to like Star Wars. Lucasfilm is allowed to market a trailer towards kids. Why should it be any different? If you like Phantom Menace, is a "kiddy" trailer going to turn you away from seeing it? If so, don't you think you should re-asses your priorities a bit? It's a silly thing to get worked up over.

That said, that was a pretty bad trailer, but I got some laughs. They should have replaced the announcer with this girl:

Is it wrong that I want to punch the voice over guy because his voice is annoying and he chose to do voice-over work? That was one of the most annoying voice overs I've ever heard.

lol it looks like a Disney Channel promo XD
But you know what, Lucas may have ulterior motives in stuff like this, if he can make it SEEM to young kids like the Star Wars movies are brand new, than by the time Return of The Jedi re-hits the cinemas in 3D he'll have a whole new generation of fans, ignorant to the butchering he's done to the original trilogy, and with the obvious inferiority of the prequels crowded by nostalgia.

If this is a real trailer (I have my doubts) then it probably aired on Cartoon Network or Disney Channel or some other child oriented network.

It makes good business sense though. The people who already know about Star Wars (i.e. Adults with the original movies or young adults with episodes 1-3) don't need to be resold on Star Wars. Chances are they already knew it was coming out in 3D. So in the marketing meetings when the inevitable question of "how can we generate the most profit?" comes up, the answer is almost always "bring in NEW customers along with the old ones."

Why advertise to people who (based on the general actions of the Star Wars fanbase) have already decided whether or not they're going to see it? If this is a real trailer and a real advertisement for the movie, then I say good job. This is the most logical thing LucasArts has done in a while.

A) A lot of older Star Wars fans already hated and B) is aimed towards a younger audience.
