Discworld. Done properly though, not like the Hogfather or the Colour of Magic though, they were awful.

Anyway, done properly. Great, I need a cup of tea...
Oh! I want this! The Diskworld could easily beat any other fantasy's ass. IF done properly.
I don't particulary want one, and Terry ain't that bothered.

If you read the Art of Discworld, he mentions that the reason films are ALWAYS in the pipeline but never come to fruition is because every time you work your way through the underlings, there's a new boss and it restarts.

He also mentions that, to be honest, you don't NEED a film. His descriptions are cinematic enough, and he uses many film techniques in his writing, though he didn't realise that's what they were at the time

Here's to you, Mr. Pratchett, we all hope you get through Alzhimers...

Wave the Discworld series in front of the monkeys that went after Harry Potter, Harry Potter pah that's only 7 books looks here's a series with just as many fans and it's got over twenty books in it's series as well as several spin offs.

Seriously could you imagine the comic irony of making Moving Pictures in to a movie?

Wow...no one gave him the welcome yet.

Welcome to the Escapist. Please ignore the body under the stairs, don't feed the troll outside, and please walk past the satanic altar.

I don't know..umm...District 9?

Here's why I don't think District 9 will be the 'next big thing':

Its appeal is limited.

Star Wars and Lord of the Rings were space opera and high fantasy, respectively. They both had the central theme of good versus evil in a different world. Anyone could relate to that. Old people, young people, people in the middle.

The films in those series had bits nearly everyone could like and relate to.

District 9 is one of those films that doesn't necessarily appeal to everyone, especially children. Sure, they might like the action scenes or the look of the aliens, but they wouldn't understand the xenophobic tones and themes about forced relocation that are present throughout the entire thing.

The next big series needs to be able to appeal to every person of every age group. That'll be what makes it the next big series.

At least, that's my opinion on it. And it may very well be wrong. Or not. Oh well =P

that or an action/adventure game on the Night Angel Series (Epic Trilogy Check it out http://www.brentweeks.com/)
I just bought that series actually, I picked the first one up for plane-fodder at ze airport, and grabbed the next two when I could. I enjoyed them, but they aren't exactly the best movie material. Sure, they're fun books, but the writing isn't the strongest and the plot couldn't get away with what it does on the screen. Good, fun books though, even if a bit silly and cheestastic at times. Who doesn't love Magic Ninja?

I've never seen one like that. Seems kinda cheesy.

The one I wrote was a mere variation of the one I usually see.

Ender's Game. Orson Scott Card will eventually approve of someone's artistic direction. What CAN NOT happen is for some dick to make a movie right after he dies like they did with Hitchhiker's Guide.
