Not willing to pay 60 bucks for a game yet unless its helped cure 5 different kinds of cancer, and since no major reviews are out for the game yet [because apparently they have to search every nook and cranny before they give the final score], I just need to know, 20-something guy to 20-something guy... is it so far worth those 60 hard earned dollars you paid for it?

I nearly cried when I had the game in my hands.

Then I nearly cried in frustration when I tried to play against the AI several times.
The campaign is fun though!

I play wow, WC3 (DOTA and TD all the way!) and the original starcraft. The campaign mode is very refreshing and enjoyable. I love the story, love the cinematics, love the mini game, love the voice acting etc.

cons:The missions are great, but, some of them seem like a bit of a grind for they have more to do with getting up the tech tree, then the story. No hero units. I wanted to see Raynor level up etc. that was very very very very disappointing. I would have loved to see the awesome DOTA stuff after all 3 campaigns came out. Who knows, maybe that will be the expansion after all the parts of the game release. i can only imagine what abilities kerrigan would have.

Not worth the collectors edition, but, it is worth $60. It comes with a map editor etc so expect lots of user generated content for years to come

edit - what you get with the collectors edition didn't peak my interest. Substitute that thumb drive with an action figure... id be all over it

If you get even the tiniest amount of enjoyment from playing RTS games, then yes, StarCraft2 is a must-have. Hell, I'd pay $60 for the single-player campaign alone.

I only paid 30$ for it, only the "monthly fee" (15$ every 3 months after the first 6 months to keep it up) version is available here. But it was totally worth it.

Someone explain this game to me. It is revered as the second coming of the Christ because it is well-balanced? Or incredibly well-balanced? How high is its Christ quotient if you ignore the painfully long wait and the aura of perfection emanating from the yonder days of yore?

It's epic, and the map maker in it can make kitten tear drop rainbows across the face of god. I just played a 3rd person shooter in the custom games, with an inventory, experience, and all kinds of crazy stuff.

The actual RTS part is pretty good, single player is actually really fun, and I don't really like RTS's that much.

In a word. Excellent.

The campaign missions are refreshing and original, and there's quite a few of them with a nice difficulty curve that constantly equips you with just the right unit for that particular mission. Although some of the units become redundant by the midpoint of the game.

It's pretty long as well, I'm about 2/3 done and I have ALOT of hours into it.

I was a little disappointed with the campaign- it's well made but nothing special.

The actual RTS aspect is amazing. I'd pay $60 for only the multiplayer.

It is difficult for me to explain in the way you're asking, but let me try to put it in terms of myself.

Since the first day I played Starcraft, 12 years ago, I have been waiting for a game to top it in terms of balance, strategy, enjoyability, and, hell, even story. At age 8, I was blown away by the campaign (even if I did just "cow level" the entire game) the story was just fantastic.

Now, 12 years later, with the first game still being the same amazing game it was back then, people are just plain psyched about a sequel. I suppose its a "you have to have been there" type of thing; if you didn't play the first one, chances are you don't understand the hype of the second.

I am loving it so far. Campaign has great variety in the missions, multiplayer is what we expect, and the only thing that would make it better would be a SC2 version of "Amazing Turret Defense Vortex" custom map for me to go crazy on.

I bought the collectors edition for the artwork and the comic, and sort of for the in game crap, but that was more of a bonus then anything. Hard cover beautiful art? That is what I love, art always has a soft spot on me!

Buy it. It is well worth any amount of money if you have the slightest interest in RTS.

Then, if you feel like doing some multiplayer, join the group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Starcraft-2-Players]!

I played a lot of Warcraft 3. Is it somewhat comparable?

It warrants a solid 4.5/5 christs.

WC3, but prettier, and without the game breaking hero system, on top of a world with AMAZING realtime cutscenes, hub levels that you can look around, and a branching mission progression.

Take out the Heroes and a lot of the imbalances and, yeah, pretty much. Blizzard have always made excellent games. Starcraft just happens to be, in a lot of minds, the finest.
