I am a fan of the Starcraft universe (used to love Warcraft also, until WoW took a crap down the throat of Lore) but so far Starcraft remains untarnished. I own all the novels, including the newest one that came out last week, and I have been playing the Starcraft 2 beta. Now, what I am about to discuss about the beta, anyone watching footage even here on this site could see.

I have noticed the Zerg Queens LOOK very much akin to Raszagal (the now dead Dark Templar matriarch). Did anyone else notice this? The head, "nerve cords", and torso all seem to be very female Protoss like to me. Just throwing that out there to see what you guys think.

Also, why no creeps in Starcraft 2? Creeps are the NPC aggressive creatures that are generally near resources on Warcraft 3. Now, I have heard many of our geek brothers and nerdy sisters argue over if creeps are teh suck or not, but I dare say no. I like them, and was looking forward to seeing if new species were going to show up on Starcraft 2 (especially since a few of the novels, especially the ones with Zamara, talk about the Protoss fighting other species before the Zerg and Terran show up).

So there you go, do you guys think there is going to be some sort of back story where Kerrigan somehow used some of Raszagal's DNA to create Queens in some sort of twisted irony, and what are your thoughts on creeps? Like them or hate the and why? And also they could make creeps on a map optional via the pre-game menu while choosing color/race/team as a possible answer to make everyone happy.

We don't know what the Starcraft 2 RPG elements look like at all. We don't know if they brought any new RPG elements from Warcraft 3 into Starcraft 2, because we haven't played their campaign yet.

If they haven't, then there's little use for creep, as they functioned primarily as Experience Resources for your various Heroes in Warcraft 3. If in Starcraft 2, there isn't a system for improving your characters that would require creeps, I don't think there's any real use for it.

There will probably be critters though.

Unlike Warcraft 3, Starcraft and Starcraft 2 do not have heroes so you don't need creeps. All creeps did were to provide heroes with experience and items.

I liked the flying critters from the twighlight worlds in brood war, I will be said if they are gone...
I hope the heroes hav not been RPGified because there is really no reason to cut your games with other genres

And I like your Idea about the new zerg queen but it would be bettr if they'd made use of one of the other protoss heroes (Aldaris, Tassadar, Fenix etc)

The zerg campaign may have creeps because for what I've read it seems that it's going to be built like an RPG, upgrading Kerrigan and stuff like that, it might be more similar to Warcraft III.

Well, I know creeps were XP, but I always thought they also worked as a sort of buffer against super fast expansion for resource mongers.

Honestly, I don't think creeps make any sense at all for Starcraft.
In WarCraft, you fight using swords, shields, axes, and a few magic spells here and there.
In StarCraft "Nuclear Launch Detected". I'm sure the local fauna has anti-radiation carapaces, yes =P

I have to be frank and say I don't want creeps in starcraft because creep is more for hero's and to sometimes anger you when you need a new gold mine.

Huh...I just noticed you snuck a lot of Warcraft 3 stuff in here....
My question since apparently you are referring to that game instead is....why? What the heck would the point be of creeps in this game?

Blizzard has already stated that they do not plan on introducing a new race, because the new race would need to be unique from all the others. Which would be a challenge in itself. Instead of worrying about something from a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT game, I would suggest worrying about what is going to happen in Starcraft2 as a whole.

But, unfortunately, the game seems to have taken a very...professional turn. I am not a professional, so I really don't like where the entire thing is going....Hopefully, my fears are unfounded.

I think everyone is missing the point here...

The Creeps being referred to are the neutral animals that ran around the map, sometimes being annoying, but mostly for looks. Not the things you kill for experience.
That's what I thought at first, but then the thread creator said:

And now you say it's the critters, the useless animals.

My head hurts now ._.

Actually, they are the annoying aggressive ones according to the OP.

And I do like that they have not come over. They were nothing more than hero fodder in Warcraft 3, and I just see them detracting from the strategic play of Starcraft.

As for the Queens, I find this interesting. It could easily be alluding to the plans from Starcraft though that Zeratul stumbles upon. Blizzard hasn't forgotten about that. I'm not sure about Raszagal herself, but certainly some Zerg with Protoss flavor would be very at home now.

Anyway, I am also saddened by their loss. Hopefully they will appear in the full game, because they were a simplistic touch that was entertaining....
Especially when they go up in mushroom cloud form!

those creatures are called Critters, not Creep.

Creeps specifically refer to the Neutral creatures in Warcraft 3 used for experience.

We don't know if the critters will not return in the retail product. I imagine they probably will.

Hm....Oops. Sorry people.

He snuck a bunch of Warcraft3 references in there, and confused me.

In that case, what point would creeps have in Starcraft2? I am absolutely confused by this now. What purpose would they serve in the Starcraft universe, and what the hell would they be? Random things that no one would recognize?

Only two things really got me interested in Starcraft II...
Tauren Marines, and getting into the beta.
Neither is a possibility, so I'm sticking with Starcraft 1 online, and maybe some Supreme Commander 2...

I always thought anything but my enemy were worthless. I wouldn't miss them.

Unless tehy pulled a SPORE and had giant things that you could kill for bonuses or enslave and turn against teh enemy. That'd be a cool player mod(though I'd dislike it being in the actual game and multiplayer as a standard thing)

There are rocks guarding expansions on the current maps. The rocks are also armored with 3k HP so it's not like it's super trivial to break them early.

Queens look nothing like Raszagal, I think you want it to be more true than it is.

I'm just looking forward to the Xel'naga showing up and wrecking shit.

EDIT: Also @ Tauren Marines: They're offering a special Thor model to those who order the special edition, who's to say whether or not they release a Tauren Marine model as a part of some promotion down the line?

The Protoss and Zerg were both "created" by the Xel'Naga, so there are probably some similarities between the two. True, the Swarm consumes and assimilates useful species into itself, but I think their common creator may have something to do with it.

Well I've decided against buying (the) new Starcraft(s) since they're going to try to sell us the same game three times.
But if they come to their senses and stop treating their playerbase like shit, then that sounds pretty damn awesome...

Just like they sold us Starcraft, Diablo II and Warcraft III twice, right?
