I, like pretty much everyone else here, consider this a load of crap. But I am interested to hear what makes you say that. Justification?

Nice to see my opposite from an alternate universe, I've always said the exact opposite, and will continue to do so.

OT: But... I have about 40 hours in that game and I've yet to finish it. HOW DO YOU DO THIS?!

Anyone can do an 18-hour marathon, the hardcoreness is in keeping playing a game for years, mastering it and improving your skills, competing with others and pushing each-other to new heights.

In fact, if you truly love a game, it is only natural, rather than hardcore, to play the hell out of it.

I finished Final Fantasy XIII with it's 50+ hours of gameplay in just 5 days...and it was an imported Japanese version just so that I'd get the original voices, but I never thought of the act as "hardcore".

If this would be reddit you would get a bazillion upvotes.
I second what you just sayd.

Yeah, much as has already been stated, that is just blatantly wrong. Not only is hardcore gaming not exclusive to multiplayer, Multiplayer practically eliminates anything that could be considered "hardcore" about multiplayer gaming. Seriously, sort of hard to be "hardcore" when you know you didnt do it yourself, and had to rely on 4-16 others to get you that win.

Besides all of that, Its not even as if Demon's or Dark for that matter is a truly single player game considering the myriad of ways networking can impact the psuedo single player affair.

I don't think you know what real hardcore is.

My definition of hardcore gamer is the type of gamer that plays and enjoys a game on its own merits and doesn't go all "Call of duty rip-off" Or "This game sucks because I cannot do X"
Of course there is an exception for sequels. So I am not entirely sure how beating a game in 18 hours with 139 deaths makes you hardcore. If it really does then I am completely sure that the people who have completed IWBTG are much more hardcore than you.

Rookie league.

I played WoW for 36 hours when WotLK came out. I subsequently quit the game for a year, but it still counts!

They'd rather multiplayer with no clearly defined goals so they can't arbitrarily declare they are better than someone who has no desire to compete.

So pro-gaming isn't "hardcore"? Professional CS and SC2 players aren't "hardcore"? Dude... have you seen those fucking guys? They're inhuman.

That makes less sense than the guy who said hardcore gamers don't play single player games.

What lying communist told you that?
Hardcore gamers only play single-player and local multi-player. Online multiplayer is the bad multiplayer.

While I didnt buy the game, a friend did, so we sat down to play that. So he had his go through and I had mine, and in the end I wound up beating in it in something like... 15 hrs and around 80 deaths.

He beat it in 15.25 hrs and I think 96 deaths.

was more humour and sarcasm at the definition of a hardcore gamer in the OP than anything else?

I fancy picking up Dark souls now (xbox360)I'm a sucker for hard games like Dragon Age on nightmare or Dead Space on hardcore.

I would love to take you up on your poorly written challenge but I don't own a PS3.

Are you saying rookie league to the consistent play time? If that is the case than I have you beat, ever heard of the 7 day war back with Halo 2? Ya, I participated in 2 of them, in the same summer. Needless to say, never again. I played the whole time... 65k kills for the FFA and 25k kills for Juggernaut. I won the FFA and got 5th in the Juggernaut, only because I refused to use guns and stuck with the sword :p.

OT: I've heard stuff about the Souls games but never really looked into them, I can only assume that its one hell of a time based on what I've heard people talking about. Kudos to you seeing that the game is supposed to have a much longer play time from some of the previous posts.

Only thing I've ever done that well in is beating MGS2 in one sitting, about 4 hours first time play through. Than I found out why it was looked upon as the bastard child of the series lol.... I regret wasting that 4 hours of my life haha.

Alright, alright. Maybe not the exact opposite.
Still, among the people who play mostly singleplayer, I would personally count a higher percentage to be "hardcore" than the ones who mostly online.
After all, the professional tournament gamers are the (way less than) 1%.

You know who else puts wood in their mouths? OH I should stop.

18 hours though...that's impressive. I heard that game is about 60-80 hours long.
Beavers? Woodpeckers?

(Why do they all sound like innuendoes?!)

Lol at the multiplayer guiz.

Singleplayer is where it's at fools. If a game can't stand up on single-player without Multi-player either propping it up, being it's equal, or taking over, then it can't be a hardcore game.

The only game mechanics is how much more points you can get than someone from south Korea.
