My definition of hardcore gamer is the type of gamer that plays and enjoys a game on its own merits and doesn't go all "Call of duty rip-off" Or "This game sucks because I cannot do X"
Of course there is an exception for sequels. So I am not entirely sure how beating a game in 18 hours with 139 deaths makes you hardcore. If it really does then I am completely sure that the people who have completed IWBTG are much more hardcore than you.

While I didnt buy the game, a friend did, so we sat down to play that. So he had his go through and I had mine, and in the end I wound up beating in it in something like... 15 hrs and around 80 deaths.
He beat it in 15.25 hrs and I think 96 deaths.

Are you saying rookie league to the consistent play time? If that is the case than I have you beat, ever heard of the 7 day war back with Halo 2? Ya, I participated in 2 of them, in the same summer. Needless to say, never again. I played the whole time... 65k kills for the FFA and 25k kills for Juggernaut. Only thing I've ever done that well in is beating MGS2 in one sitting, about 4 hours first time play through. Than I found out why it was looked upon as the bastard child of the series lol.... I regret wasting that 4 hours of my life haha.

Singleplayer is where it's at fools. If a game can't stand up on single-player without Multi-player either propping it up, being it's equal, or taking over, then it can't be a hardcore game.
The only game mechanics is how much more points you can get than someone from south Korea.
