Yeah, that's probably the nasty part of it. I've tried this a couple of times to get back into a normal day/night mode, but when I go to sleep I just sleep again for ages :S

I do nothing out of the ordinary to stay awake. My own will-power is enough for me.

Good Luck!
A cheer for will-power! That's all I need to stay up late when I want to. xD Kind of wish I had weak will-power sometimes though. Lol.
Why? Strong will-power is a great thing to have.
Not when you have to get up for work at 6 in the morning and work an 8 hour day of strenuous work. 0.0 It tends to wear down your body. xD Especially when you stay up around 2 a.m. :S
I feel that the strong will-power would allow you to get to sleep before 2 in the morning. You would think about it logically, and then you would come to the conclusion that sleep is for the best.

I think I'm starting to mix will-power and something else...
Well it started out me wanting to watch one more episode, then another....before I knew it, it was 2 in the morning. xD I have such a hard time sleeping though, regardless the time I go to bed.

But I do get what you're saying.

How is this possible then? The problem for me is that I tend to be more active during the evening/night because I just start thinking and can't slow that train of thoughts down till 3 hours after my head landed on airport pillow. Do you have the same thing?

Stick ice down your shirt or pants.

Use it as a sort of last resort, like "it's so tiring to open the refridgerator" last resort. It worked like a charm for New Year's Eve last year.

Yup, that's me in a nutshell. I'm a night person, and when I try to go to bed, my mind just doesn't slow down enough to allow me peace to fall asleep. Takes me a good 2 hours before I fall asleep from the moment I lay my head on that pillow.

Oh JIst00 this one works for me as well: if you can, and are in to that kind of stuff, try get some shrooms. That stuff really keeps you up and probably will leave you laughing like crazy for nothing when you try and go to sleep before those bastards do.

for staying awake: coffee, playing 4x games+listening to podcast

if i want to adjust my sleeping pattern i put in a nap of 3 hours, around 6 ours before my bedtime, this gives me enough energy to stay wake for at least 24 hours.
and i can just fall dead anywhere and sleep 8 hours straight, that helps

It's morning here (Aus).

I use to work nights I find maths keeps me up, or worrying about something. Sometimes I convinced myself that I'd left my front door unlocked and all my shit was stolen.

Pain works, like lick a battery.

Go onto a puzzle site and do some mental calisthenics.

The good old red bull.

Swimming at night because it's so cold (if that's a possibility).

Gaming, specifically WoW and vent/teamspeak/xfire.

I would suggest not watching movies, I find they put me to sleep because I'm not participating.

Hope you're still up :)

Whip out the caffeine, loud music, internet and games with lots of things going boom. I, myself, play games and go on the internet.

As the title implies, I want to know how u stay awake when ur really tired but cant go to sleep because ur trying to sort out ur sleeping pattern.

I work nights but my sleep pattern is all over the place because ive been off work, and I could do with being up for a good few hours yet.

Coffee isnt a viable answer for me, I drink a fair bit of it, so it doesnt tend to help me stay awake. Alcohol is a no, as I don have any and dont drink much anyway. Narcotics wont help either, because aside from the odd joint, i dont do any, and Im all out of weed anyway.

Ive tried reading, but its tiring my eyes out. Cant do films as Im in the bedroom and the better half is asleep and I really dont want to disturb her.

So... any ideas? I got till wednesday to be going sleep at 6-7am, and it's half past midnight on monday morning.
I work nights too. I usually plan my sleep cycles in advance. Im lucky that i can sleep for anything upto 15 hours, But if im stuck, feeling sleepy, I go out for a drive. Usually it wakes me up, and if i get some friends out in the car with me (I have nocturnal friends) then usually i can survive till the allotted sleep times.

Ive been doing nights 18 months now, and Sleep is the hardest part of the whole thing.

I really just find some way to pass the time. Games, movies, books, guitar, more guitar, a little more guitar, or music.

Once you get to a week of no sleep though, I recommend stopping. Hallucinations are only so fun for so long.

However accessible this may be, I know not, but sex is a good way to stay awake. Afterwards, however, you're screwed.

Cold keeps you awake and alert, so does pain or adrenalin. Best advice is to keep yourself occupied. The less down time the better.

not to get to oftopic, but..... WHAT THE HELL, if your sleepy you go for a drive thats just asking for trouble there.

anyway, usually listen to music if youve got earphones or drink alot (drinking might backfire though and could turn into a very embarasing situation)

else tv or films with subtitles and the sound of, since you dont want to wake your other half up? (since your on your computer already i doubt that will wake them up)

*points*

If im completely exhausted, I wont. I know my own body, and usually my body starts telling me to sleep if im bored. Videogames really[/I] bore me when im in one of those states, And i find driving (something that i love doing) wakes me up properly.

I dont drive if im tired to the point of dangerous, But usually as soon as i feel the cool night air (Bare in mind it's usually late/dark when i get in those situations) Ill wake up ready to mooch about.
