I took an unusually long vacation and was consequently tight on money. I swore I wouldn't buy anything--any game, at least--this summer....

...whatever that means.

Edit: Oh I see...well, hope it's worth the money.

Might as well ask; is it a good game? I don't think I've ever played any of the Civilisation games so, what is it?

I'm downloading the demo right now to:

1. See if my computer can run it nicely.
2. Actually see if the game is any good.

EDIT: Just tested on my new laptop and it runs nicely, seems like I was meant to buy it, considering it is on sale :D

It's a turn-based strategy game. I've only played the demo before and was impressed, but not enough to splurge $49.99 on it 3 months ago. But this....this changed everything.

So anyone notice the guy isn't trying to talk about how good the game is, but the fact that steam charged him 3 dollars more then they said it would cost?

I got Civilization IV and every expansion for 7.50. Best purchase that I've ever made from Steam.

I would buy it, however I have the Civ4 complete pack. Frankly I like Civ4's grid more, so Ill pass on Civ5.

Are you a fan of Civ 4? if so please tell me how Civ 5 compares... I love Civ 4 but am dubious about getting Civ 5... looks needlessly dumbed down... its that the case?

Been playing Civ since the first one and V is by far the best. It is streamlined in the best sense of the word, cutting out loads of the crap and the micromanagement which became tedious towards the end game.

Only problem really is the the new combat system is so great it feels like a waste no to go for domination, and the AI just can't handle it.

Having said that, I know some other people think differently. But it was up for £10 recently. Surely worth a bash?
