One stereotype I've noticed is the "this topic is so serious I just can't get myself to reply".

Two examples:

Psychiatry and Psychology [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.78984]

Not so much the 'report and move on' people but definitely the search bar trolls.
My philosophy is, "If you know a thread has already been made, simply don't comment."

Stereotypes? Are you referring to stereotypes in users or threads?
The search bar and "report and move on" kids are a bit annoying (but I do hate me some repeat threads), and we do have a tendency to berate anyone who comes in here with terrible spelling and/or grammar (which in this day in age, a majority of web browsers come equipped with spell check and no one likes to read "txt spk" as you can almost feel your brain melting whilst trying to comprehend it).
I don't think I'll ever understand this fascination with Max. Say a few snarky things and everyone loves you? Really? God we have a lot of angsty kids on this site (or I'm an old man penguin).

Thread wise, it's always the same thing. You have your usual "What's you favorite______", "Top 5/10/20 _____________", and "Best _________" threads which pop up a dime a dozen every single day. You get your Halo related threads, your religion threads, and the zombie apocalypse threads. It's basically us just going through the same ol' topics over and over again in a never ending loop that is sometimes interrupted by a pesky 12 year old or 2.

So all in all, we are a semi elitist society that likes repetition (although we won't admit it) and we are influenced very easily depending on the wordings of others.

After some time on the Escapist, I've noticed a few repeating themes in threads. Let's talk about what typical scenarios in the forums we've seen on the Escapist.

One example would be the "So terrible, people start looking at the persons profile" thread. Occasionally, someone makes a pointless thread with terrible grammar and features of inadequacy that simply blow your mind. Almost immediately, the subject changes to the quality of the post, and soon after you begin to see references to their profile. Example [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.147471]
This is why everyone is asked to make sure their spelling and grammar is up to scratch before posting. I can't really see what the point in your post is, you haven't come up with a list of Escapist stereotypes nor expressly asked people for their thoughts.

I am Swiss to all that. I just want to write my opinion, never molesting anyone. I know I might do, but that's just me.

Also, I don't consider myself over intelligent. I prove it.

I don't like smug search bar nazis.
Example:
Thread : What's your favourite game?
Answer : The Search Bar
oh har har..everyone saw what you did there..and that you have 1000+ posts and the OP has under 100.
And no, I'm not some frustrated person that got search bar corrected .
I just really hate it when I see this.

A lot of people here think a troll is anyone who disagrees with the general opinion on a subject.

Though the real problem is this site has too many above average IQ teens, this is worse than dumb teens.

Snipers. I despise snipers. They seem to cause 99% of all the flamewars in any topic that has potential for disagreement.

And yeah, elitism. It's a stereotype, but I find it to be an accurate one. Some of the elitists get banned, like Indigo, but many do not.

Theres the "I'm so deep and sad and only I can see that your all sheep being controlled by the man" type people who annoy me and seem to be mainly composed of white middle class Americans.

Oh and theres the people who all think there unique and different and desperately want to be outside of mainstream culture, going to lengths to explain how abnormal they are and how they hate all popular things (Twilight, reality TV, religion.) just to appear counter culture. These people also annoy me.

Then you've got nihilistic, pessimist mopers who seem to constantly go on about there "faith in humanity dropping" and acting like there so much better then the status quo, when their part of the whole damn problem, if generation X got off its ass and took action they might be able to help parts of life that are shit instead of just standing around shaking there heads like a load of bird water peckers. These people also annoy me.

Then theres people who try and act all cold and unemotional to try and appear cool and edgy, "oh I'd just kill that guy", you can't be tough on the internet and you come across as needy and trying too hard. These people also annoy me.

In fact I have no idea why I hang around this forum, all my friends are passing driving lessons and I'm starting my lessons, once I have transport I can get out of this little village and enjoy myself rather then hanging around here. (Well I may still comment on the odd good or thoughtful thread, there are the occasional 1 or 2.)

**Holy lawn ornament, Batman! My first post ever was in response to a Labyrinth thread! I thought she was the newbie round these parts!
I'm "older" than people give me credit for. Hell, I'm coming up on my two-year mark this month. Scary thought huh? The reason people think I'm newer, say Nuke's generation, is that I lurked for months. Really lurked. I spent most of that time getting a genuine feel for the site and the users, who people respected and why, what I could do to earn respect and that kind of thing. I happen to think it was a few months well spent.

Instead of dividing the 'generations' of user, I think that there are particular demographics which exist[footnote]These are tongue in cheek, people. Seriously.[/footnote]. For example there are the Roleplay Game enthusiasts[footnote]a subset of this is the forum game people. They tend to have much shorter attention spans and be relatively new to the forums.[/footnote]. These people have either been around for a while and retreated back into the land of their inception to toast the great threads of old[footnote]Queen of Hearts, the first Escapist Election... Oh, I miss thee so...[/footnote] or just dived right in and then discovered everything. They are creative if a little stand-offish at times. Spelling and grammar are a must.

Next come the Denizens of Off-Topic. Oh boy. These are the argumentative, the political. They revel in the meta and the self-indulgent[footnote]Cockney comes firmly under this classification. Yes, it's also wild fun.[/footnote] and don't like to be interrupted. Like the Roleplay Game Enthusiasts they appreciate spelling and grammar, but it isn't quite so important.

The User-Reviewers and Newsies have a lot in common. Structured things with wry humour and good editing are their opiates. They like to be in the know about anything and everything. If you've played it, they've probably read a dozen reviews about it, or written one themselves. Or they saw it in a few news articles and didn't find themselves interested.

Game Discussioners have their own little cliques. These are the people who like games. Really like games. Perhaps a little too much. They also hate games, talk about games, and nitpick like no-one else except maybe the Reviewers.

Those who stroll the Featured Content forums come in two apparent types: the Commenteers and the Fans/anti-Fans. The former writes on the articles with opinions and observations. His or her dream is to be quoted in the Letters To The Editor every week until they leave the site. The Fans/Anti-Fans just want to be FIRST!!

And now, there are the Staff and Red Guard[footnote]Because after all, what would this post be with out some satirical self-congratulation?[/footnote]. They are The Most Epic, The Most AwesomeUltra to walk the forums. Tireless is their work both on the ground and in the high heavens of Themis offices, handing down the banquets of content for the Users below to feast upon. Pray, ye mortals pray. For they will smile kindly if it is made due.

Basically there's a lot of pretentiousness and a ton of hypocrisy (take a look at a thread about rape, and compare some people's comments in a thread about murder, you'll see what I mean).

If you admit to liking something unpopular, 9 times out of 10, some dickhead will flame you or call you a retard for having a different opinion.

But mostly it's a decent site, as long as you like what everyone else likes then you'll do fine.

Writing an accurate summary of the incredibly rampant, epidemic-level misogyny in Anime is far beyond the scope of this thread (and probably would require its own entire forum to cover off in a manner that the topic truly warrants) but it's something that permeates almost all anime at every level. It's not just about "cute tics" and "fanservice", it goes much, much deeper than that. It certainly goes a hell of a lot deeper than misogyny in Western horror films, and THAT is saying a lot. It's university thesis material and since I'm not being graded for this, all I can suggest is that you do some internet searches and pay really careful attention to the female characters next time you watch an anime. What you will discover, is that with maybe only a small handful of exceptions in the entire genre, there are actually no female characters in anime. Think about that statement carefully and watch your next anime with that in the back of your mind.
Um...dare I ask you to provide examples? I've not seen any misogyny in anime that couldn't be attributed to Sturgeon's Law, same with pretty much any medium that has a significant amount of pandering to an audience.
First of all, thank you, I needed support here. Secondly, he/she said in another post that women in anime are only female in appearance and not actually female, comparing them to female horror movie protagonists. Don't ask me how that works, I have no damn clue.

OT: Stereotypes... umm.....
Escapists don't seem to like religion threads, Halo threads, and death penalty threads very much. Everyone seems to fear that they'll explode into all out flame wars. Maybe it's because I don't look hard enough, but I haven't seen any major flame wars start up here that didn't have something to do with a troll that someone forgot to ignore first.
She's Signum from Nanoha, and expect me to bring her and and show up more.

I don't know. If someone is posting in a stereotypical way that annoys me I normally tell them directly and repeatedly until they lose their cool. I'm not that nice of a person, I guess.

One man's elitism can also be another man's minimum standards. Some of us wouldn't be able to stomach the forums if they were like 4chan or Gametrailers. I guess if that is a problem then we can leave the forums to the people who make treads about the top 10 shittiest stories in games with regurgitated Yahtzee opinions in every other post.

There seems to be a self-proclaimed stereotype that Escapist users (forum members) are somehow more intelligent than the people you would find on other websites. From what I have seen the only real difference is that spelling, grammar and punctuation are used to better effect and the Mods (generally) don't allow people to get away with being pricks (although when it does happen it's more likely because people don't report).

You still find just as many trolls and flame-baiter's as you do anywhere else they just appear to be more sophisticated because they take the time to make their post look presentable. Look at half the posts in a discussion about Halo or religion/atheism and you will see what I mean.

We aren't trolls. We are trying to dissuade people from shit-posting.
I agree if you mean the first person to say it.

It becomes trolling when someone says 'Report and Move on' when someone else has already said it beforehand. The phrase means 'Use the Report button and do not post' so saying it when it's already been done is post boosting, ego inflating and trolling.

The same goes for 'Use the search bar' especially as that phrase is almost always used within the first 2 replies; it means that anyone else saying it is not doing so for the benefit of the OP as opposed to boost their self importance.
