Harlow, Essex, almost everyone I know fits the stereotype, they're thick and can't see beyond their own fake-tan coated life, damn I want to move.

I'm from that one state next to D.C, Maryland. Yes, everything you've ever heard about seafood here is true, and it is awesome. As for most of us being rich.... no.... the area is divided into three groups, upper middle class, upper class people who think they're lower class, and lower class people who think they're upper class. We really just like to think that we're all on the exact same level and not pay much atention to that. It only gets brought up when out of state people come in.

The Netherlands.
And no I'm not a cheap ass, I just don't have that much money! :p
As for drugs, of course people use drugs, but they do that in every country. I never wore wooden shoes or visited a prostitute

Short and to the point:

I'm from England and I'm also a walking English stereotype.

Cynical, sarcastic and very silly all at the same time? yep.
Bad teeth? yep.
Tea? yep.
Queue politely for anything? yep.
Live near a load of roundabouts? yep.
Hate the French? yep.
Speak with a posh accent while saying things like "bugger"? yep.

I personally view Monty Python just as business as usual.
Same I personally will make sure to live up to the Bowler hat and Umbrella stereotype when I go to America in July.

If anyone from Las Vegas sees a guy with a Bowler Hat Umbrella Suit and Briefcase (of course reading the financial times) in July... that will be me.

Although is it really true that American's have to wait until they are 21 to buy Alcohol and Gamble? (Good job I'm not going to gamble if so).

We all drink Guinness - Not really. It tends to be older people(men especially)who drink it.I don't know a single person my age(33)or younger who drinks the stuff.Heineken and Cider are probably the most popular drinks for younger people
You are going to Hell. It's the only thing I drink in Ireland.

In Maryland, most of us aren't rich.

In Baltimore, you will rarely find crime if you visit (shocking right?)

Some people here don't like crab at all (except for me, i freaking love me some crab)

Contrary to what you see at the Preakness infield, we are not all drunken idiots.

You know those John Waters movies with Divine where people from Baltimore have silly accents? Those exist, but they are becoming a lot rarer.

I'm Belgian, so let's see...

Apparently the Flemish hate the Walloons and vice versa - it's only partially true; we have some extreme-right parties and their respective followers. In my idea, I don't care whether you're either one of them.

Our capital is Brussels - not vice versa.

French fries should be called Belgian fries, dammit. :p

We don't have a real government atm - true, our politicians are still negotiating about forming a government, but most people have stopped caring...

Don't know any other Belgian stereotypes.

I am originally from Lusaka, Zambia:

The stereotypes I will point out are stereotypes that are used to lump all of Africa together (which is stupid), some are more true depending on which region and country you are while some are false.

Starving: not that bad in Zambia, we are more fortunate than some other countries

AIDS everywhere: rare occurrence from what I have seen

violent and war torn: Zambia may be a 3rd world country and there are gangs and such but no loose militia groups and high murder rate. Zambia is pretty calm and peaceful mostly.

no technology: my uncle owns a few businesses/companies including a computer company so yeah there is technology. There is tv (and cable), internet, movie theaters, video games, etc.

bad education: Africa gets no recognition when it comes to many things (especially academics) but there are good schools and universities in the South-east regions of Africa and plenty of smart people.

full of religious fundamentalism: Zambia is a Christian country (primarily) but there are other religions including Hinduism and Islam. I hardly ever see as much unity between different groups than what I see in Zambia, we get along pretty well. I have seen horrible fundamentalism in Africa, but not so much here in Zambia.

Many places in the world have stereotypes ascribed to them, whether they are cities, states, regions, or countries. I'm from Portland, and for the most part, the main stereotype of the city is that everyone is hipsters. Of course, there is some truth to this stereotype, there is a sizable population of hipsters plaguing the city.

So what stereotypes are there about your city/state/region/country, and how much truth do you think there is to those stereotypes?

EDIT: This is what made me start this thread

I love that comic so much.

Yeah, there's no question Portland's full of hipsters, although probably no more so than Seattle or Vancouver. The difference, as far as I can tell, is that most of Portland's hipsters are actually decent people, and not upper-middle-class douchebags. We have the Pearl District for that. Damn yuppies.

Sadly many of these stereotypes are true in Central Africa (and yes, not Africa as a whole). But I always have this impression that, the further south you are in Africa, the more these stereotypes will likely be false.

You get your homosexuals, I'll get my homosexuals, and we'll gather for a big fight. If it doesn't decend into an orgy, we'll find out who's poofs are awesome-er.
Sounds like a plan. Winner gets New Zealand.

It is true that the drinking are is 21 in the US, im not sure what is it to gamble there. In Canada its 19 to drink and 18 to gabmle but you do have to be 19 to get into the casinos. Though there are ways that you can legally drink at the age of 16.
You have to be at least 18 to gamble, but in casinos you have to be 21, because they serve alcohol. The casino floor is like a bar.

Here in New Jersey you have to be 19 to smoke.
