What the fuck is up with you guys? Have you all caught the cynicism virus from Yahtzee?

ITS A NEW FUCKING GTA GAME! I don't really care in what direction they go with it. I prefer the humourous and crazy Vice/SA style but i'm not gonna front, GTA IV had some really touching moments and overall Rockstar pulled off a very weighty story without being heavy-handed.
There is no need for GTA when SR3 is almost out
Because the SR games have a history of being soooo much better than GTA, right? (Apply humungous amounts of sarcasm)
compared to GTAIV yes. Saints Row pretty much picked up where GTASA left off with the craziness that GTAIV left out. the diversions were more interesting and the game included Co-op (the multiplayer wern't that good but niether was GTAIV's).
Sorry but you swapped our the usernames on our comments round, I'm the one who thinks SR is the best, but definately agree with everything you said

Realism wasn't really the psyche of IV either. Sure it wasn't as crazy as the prequels, but it had a solid story and great atmosphere.

I think the main problem was the gameplay/ missions were a little bland and repetitive. IV had the makings of a great game, it just wasn't thinking outside the box. It was missing some of its crazy streak.
(Compare it with Red Dead, which is a similar build but with a greater variation of things to do)

People need to be more optimistic about GTAV, and need to stop comparing it to its prequels.
Probably the best explanation Ive seen, although I think caution is a better approach then optimism.
Another point is that RDR didnt have the weight of GTA's reputation, so people weren't expecting something specific.

Personally I'm hoping for a Tokyo setting, but the font makes that seem unlikely. Part of me wants it to be set in Liberty City just for the possibility of having a street-accurate map of Manhattan (like True Crime: NYC, but less terrible), but they'd probably just go with the radically condensed New York again and make the whole thing just feel like GTAIV, so setting it somewhere else is probably for the best.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I kinda like the grim and serious parts of the GTA IV storyline. I was a little disappointed at how half the game was serious and the other half was parody. That's a common complaint of the game, though I suppose I'm in a bit of a unique case in which I hoped it would be all serious.

Take Red Dead Redemption for example - that one held a much more consistent serious tone and worked it well. Yeah, a few jokes here and there but nothing that really broke you out of the story.

If the graphics aren't at least IcEnhancer quality, even on the consoles, I might not even bother.

In all seriousness I've never much cared about GTA even when it was good. I've always been more into Saints Row which will probably overshadow GTA V.

not excited for this, unless it's san andreas 2. i hated 4. it sucked. see, i hated the fact that there was no planes in 4, AND the fact that driving was a bit too klunky. or that you flew out of the front windshield at the slightest bump.

I love the GTA franchise, but GTAIV was a complete dud. Story was great, sure, but it was lacking the arcade-style fun that made the previous GTA games great. Where were the tanks? The "Super Jump" cheat codes? The crazy weapons? If Rockstar doesn't make some serious effort toward putting the fun craziness back in GTA, this thing is going to be overshadowed by Saint's Row, which seems to be channeling the spirit of the older GTA games pretty hard.

Well, this has got me excited for the second, BUT. Saints Row The Third comes out that month. I'll not give a damn. :3

PLEASE let it be set in Europe, PLEASE!

Honestly, almost all of the GTA titles have been set in the US, save for the London one from over a decade ago, the world doesn't just consist of America, and to be honest Europe, as a setting, is and will always be more interesting than the United States.

Seriously people here mistake cynicism with intelligence...
if GTA 5 will be anywhere near GTA 4, i'd be satisfied. I have both GTA 4 and SR 2,
and SR 2 i just so... childish. GTA matured- and that's a good thing.

Unless it's closer to the main PS2 installments, I'm not interested. GTA IV was disappointing with all its gimmickery, limited player choice, pathetic assortment of safe houses, and apparent complete lack of proper garages.

Hopefully it doesn't kinda suck this time around.

Actually decent driving controls would be a good start.
