I say this, not because I'm an obsessed, overzealous kewboard warrior, but because there just really isnt any point in doing it anymore.

COD has just well, nailed it. At least, better than anyone else really has.

I rented out and played Medal of Honour recently, along with Killzone 2 and Bad Company to see how they stacked up, and by comparison they were just awful. Sure, maybe they wouldnt be so bad if I didnt have something better to compare them to, but for christ sake they bored me.

Aiming the weapons was a sluggish chore, point blank hails of bullets took a solid 6 seconds to bring down an enemy, the close combat animations were lame, the characters were highly punchable, the story was broken and unfocused and badly told, and the set pieces made me yawn.

As Yahtzee once said, popular things are often popular for a reason, because they are good.

So who agrees? Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing about "COD killers" and just wish these bland imitations would stop so new first person shooters could just be good on their own merit, or is it actually possible to knock COD off its perch with a new title? (That would be, off its perch in its prime, not when it starts releasing endless successions of clones after MW3.)

Oh boy... Here we go... (Flame Shield)
Well to be honest, all of those games named were good for their own reasons, and some people have preferences, so COD will be the best to some, and Killzone will be best to others.

KillZone 2's sluggish controls will be fixed for KillZone 3, I am a happy headless teddybear for that.

I'm the opposite of you Taipan, I think COD should be challenged, otherwise how else would it better itself, if it had no competition?

Just like WoW, people will always try to beat COD, they set a model, and followed models., people followed the models they set. Now don't make me go and educate people about having a wrong opinion now.

Bad Company 2?
Like COD?
Give me a fucking break, will you...
It removed everything that was annoying about COD to me.
No more being able to survive getting hit by a rocket launcher by standing behind a garbage bin.
No more overpowered weapons that ruin the game completely.
No more rounds that depend on one guy getting a tactical nuke and the rest just running across the map like idiots.
NO MORE CAMPING.

You know. We get better games as people try to make their games better than previous games. In fact, when Call of Duty started they had to dethrone Medal of Honor. Competition is generally a good thing.

The thing that has made games like Halo and CoD and (to some extent) Assassin's Creed so massive imo is the amount of polish lathered onto them.

ArmA II tzharr ownage!

Also, we have no problem with the stories, we can suspend belive to be a US Marine growing legs in the middle of a TV Station, but we can put up with the obnoxious, ignorant online community.

It basically solved the problem of camping. It removed everything that was annoying about COD to me.
Whats the FIRST game it, or any other recent "realistic war game" gets compared to? Go on, hazard a wild guess.

Call of duty is the death of innovation, it brings nothing new to the table each release and simply recycles the same tired game mechanics with different shaped guns

If CoD is the best multiplayer shooters have to offer then the industry needs help.

MW2 is the most unbalanced multiplayer game I've ever played, as well as being glitch-ridden and including an essentially broken-by-design matchmaking system.

The answer is "I don't give a shit".
I seriously don't.
The only reason it gets compared to COD is because COD has a very large community, and it also happens to be a game about people shooting guns. The difference in gameplay between these games is immense.
Many people who got tired from the monotonous, already-done-a-million-times type of gameplay that COD had to offer switched over to BC2 and found a game that is actually balanced and offers a breath of fresh air from all of the other arcade shooters out there.

its true that most of us here liked mw2 for the time being, only to be turned into hate after it got boring.
But if you say that bad company 2 was awful you haven't played it. Still TF2 may be the best online fps game because it is FUN, just the same fun as mw2 had for the time being.
