simple: no appeasement

essentially France and Britain could have stopped Nazi Germany's early advancements early on and Hitler wouldn't have been able to make such huge territorial gains and amass such a huge army

or go back and make the Treaty of Versailles less ridiculous

Kill that fucking snake in the Garden of Eden.

OT: Well I don't really know what would be the best way to prevent both the war in Europe and Asia as both weren't dependent entirely upon one action (or even one for each).

Can't really say what would be a good way to stop the war in Asia as I'm not as familiar with the events that lead up to it (I know Japanese imperialism was on a roll at that time), but as for the war in Europe I probably would have tried to alter the Treaty of Versailles so that the Germans weren't so butthurt over it. That would have gone a long way towards stopping WW2 from ever happening. Plus WW1 had a lot of things that went into making it take place, not just one assassination (which was only the spark that lit the powder-keg).

Kill Adolf Hitlers mother. She was extremely abusive and many historians believe she played a large part in turning Adolf Hitler into the crazy fucker that he was. Without Germany's strong armored divisions and technological prowess I doubt the Italians would have had the balls to declare open war. With both other Axis powers out of the picture Japan would have probably kept to itself.

Modify the Treaty of Versailles so it doesn't crush Germany with debt, causing the political turmoil that allowed Hitler to gain enough clout to take over the government.
Exactly what I was going to say.

Actually Hitler pretty much threw away the war with one bad tactical move after the other after the other after the other. Almost all his success in the War and in Germany came from luck and the efforts of the people under him. Hitler was done for the second he declared on Russia, who's leader (Stalin) was so assured Germany wouldn't attack he denied for hours after the invasion had began. Really, killing anybody else besides Hitler would of brought the war to a quicker end.

I dunno why I'd WANT to stop it but if I was forced to I'd probably use whatever force available to wipe out Americas military force (sabotage food supplies/material transportation) just after WW1 ended so by the time WW2 starts they're powerless to build up or send forces out.
Sure it wouldn't stop WW2 but it'd sure shorten it as Europe gets taken over.

Beforehand I'd also bomb the crap out of France but of course I'm getting off Topic here.

... it was pretty much unavoidable. You had Joseph Stalin tranforming Russia into Soviet Union after the Bolshevik revolution, Italy led by Benito Mussolini meddling in Ethiopia which France somewhat agreed to, the Spanish Civil War which was another nationalist insurection in Europe, supported by both Italy and Germany, tension between China and Japan that led to Japan invasion ... to actually have any chance of stopping WW2 you would have stop Bolshevik revolution, Spanish civil war, unification of China, invasion of Ethiopia and make League of Nations grow some balls...
Yes! That's basically how I see it. If I might ignore for the moment how turmoil in the West was decoupled from the East, I would choose to intervene by establishing an international body much earlier. A League of Nations established sometime like 1750, based on various ideas of freedom from Voltaire, etc etc. 1750 is largely arbitrary. I simply don't see any 'good' periods with low tension anywhere thereafter for the establishment of such a body. The U.S. revolted against the benign "occupation" of Britain, revolution in France, 19th century imperialism, widespread nationalism in ... crap... 1848? [dammit, I wasn't supposed to forget that date!].

The central problem with an interventionist body is that there was no desire for such a mechanism until the aftermath of WWI was fully discerned. It is true that such a body could have mitigated the American and French revolutions, as well as multiple civil wars worldwide. However, those countries that were not savagely tearing themselves apart were JOYFULLY tearing apart other nations through imperialism, colonialism, economic advantages, etc. And since colonization had the implicit blessing (through hundreds of years) of an occasionally corrupt papacy, it would have been extremely difficult for any interventionist body to gain traction.

Everyone simply believed that "might made right" until about 1918. Then they forgot how bad the war was after about 10 years. The great remorse did not dissipate, nor did it remedy the tensions that lingered afterward. World War II was inevitable. Hitler and his Final Solution were truly unfortunate for the world, but another leader would have risen in his absence.

ever play red alert? you dont win thanks to stalin.
only way to stop that war is by not forcing the central powers to give so much money in reparations after the treaty of versailles

It's fortunate for the world that he did. Also, he had no patience. He just couldn't stop escalating. He performed a brilliant bit of diplomacy which resulted in Chamberlain declaring "Peace in Our Time." Sure, its easy to think that Chamberlain was naive, but I think that oversimplifies the situation. Things could have been very different if Hitler had adopted a longer timetable, toned down the militancy, instituted 'Naked Secretary Day', got ice cream for the brownshirts once in a while...

Shoot some machine gun rounds over the head's of German troops as they march into the Rhineland, get the L.N. to intervene in Ethiopia as well as China.
