My strange hobby is apparently target shooting. I always get dirty looks when people ask me what I did this weekend and the answer is shoot but god damn it I love to shoot.
Shoot, man, around here that'd just make people jealous. I wish I could go to the range every weekend. Heck, I wish I had a little .22 just for target practice. I'm not interested in using a gun for home defense, but there's definitely something rejuvenating about an afternoon spent target shooting. As it is, the closest thing to a gun I own is my childhood BB gun. I want to get a real one eventually, but it won't be until after I've finished college and started working.

OT: I'm a home theater buff. Not only am I into movies, but I actually enjoy tweaking my equipment to get the best possible sound out of it. In highschool, when everyone else was watching movies on their mono TVs, I learned a way to build a basic Dolby Surround decoder out of a spare speaker and some speaker wire. I also enjoy tinkering with electronics in general, with underpowered electronics being especially fun to try to get the most out of. Think laptops and budget smart phones; I really enjoy messing around with them to get the most possible performance.

Ah yes, I have a small gun collection and love shooting every other weekend. Hunting too and I'm quite fond of leatherwork. I'm not too good at it but my uncle is teaching me bit by bit.

Unlike most in this thread, I live in Texas so shooting and hunting are not 'strange' hobbies, unless you lived in Austin I guess.

Well to fair it's not a range, My grandfather has a farm and my brother and I go out there to help him. After work we shoot, usually .22 but sometimes we bring out bigger toys. When you go looking I strongly recommend the Ruger 10/22, very reliable and range in price from $250-$400.

Thanks for the tip. That's cool about your grandfather's farm, too; I'd imagine you save quite a bit of money not having to worry about range fees.

When I expand into firearms, I'd like to get a custom engraved chrome colt 1911 with ivory grips.

Fans of the show Supernatural will know why. Seems stupid, but I can't stop imagining what it'd be like to have that as my carry gun.

Edit: I really want to join the Royal Marines in a few years. It's my hope that after my training, I could be allowed to take my kukri on service.

Hopefully not real ivory. I can't imagine why anyone would want real ivory anything.

Writing My Little Pony fanfiction and creating fanart of it too. I'm pretty sure many people would laugh at me if I told them I do that. But really, I find it rather relaxing and it's nice to share your creations with a good community of people.
haha I've never been too much of a fan of MLP but i have a few good friends that are bronies, and as long as they aren't the kind that would jerk off to it then i support it.

Yeah, I like people like you. I reckon that if many people who dislike bronies would actually spend some time with one, they would begin to like them. It's fine if you're not a brony though, to each their own I guess. Now, I'll stop talking about ponies to prevent derailing the thread.

It is a tedious thing for most people...but I really enjoy cleaning my guns. I also enjoy sharpening and polishing my blades.

When I was younger I use to spend a lot of my afternoons with modelling clay. The top of my desk was completely devoted to all these creatures I had made, mostly fantasy-ish, but animals as well.

Heck, if that desk hadn't broken I'd probably still be doing it today. Put a ball of clay in my hands and I'm in heaven.

I've done pottery plenty, and it's quite fun, but there's nothing so satisfying as working your hands through something - literally bringing it to life from nothing but a slab of coloured clay - and being able to add to it days/weeks/months later.

Somebody I know considers gaming so strange that it doesn't even count as a hobby.
So, does that mean it counts as a strange hobby?

If I could be bothered with the shipping expenses my strange hobby would be building scale plastic models of giant robots.

Edit: *facepalm* Why didn't I think of it? I play Yu-gi-oh. I have collected cards since it was released.
when I was younger I found it odd to call gaming a "hobby"..like calling watchign TV a "hobby"

I knew a guy with an unhealthy obsession with his cat.

He had a shoe box full of the cat's hair.

Watching TV is more passive. Besides I think you can call anything you do that is done professionally as well a hobby without anyone trying to call you on it.

Through the definition of hobby is far more than that. A hobby is a regular activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure.

I didn't think it was strange for me to go shooting until I moved to the city. Everyone looked at me like I had two heads when I started talking about going shooting every few weekends.
This, though I only go shooting every few months. Just the fact that I can and have fired a gun makes people look like they think I'm slightly crazy. Though, some of my friends think it's cool and have asked to go to the range with me.

I spend hours and hours on porn versions of chat roulette. It's awful and I need to stop... but I can't. Look at all those weird penises...
You're telling me that there are versions of chat roulette with MORE penises?! Impossible!

This is pretty much ALL the people I know, since I don't have any friends who are interested in gaming. I'm considered to have a very niche, slightly undesirable hobby that shouldn't be talked about lest I infect them with geek.

OT: I like making photo stories. Either purposefully rounding people up to act something out or just trying to fit together random old photos into some coherent narrative.

Warhammer 40,000. This earns me a lot of strange looks and mocking jokes. *shrugs* Although you find the occasional closet hobbyist and there is a strange look of "I see you, I know what you are, and it is awesome we both like it." A bit like a secret handshake.

I tabletop roleplay. Systems I like: Call of Cthulu, Dark Heresy, Black Crusade, 4th Ed Dungeons and Dragons.

I watch every film that comes out and then write reviews. It's just what I do. Apparently, more than one film a week is strange. *shrugs again*

I really like board games. When friends come over, we often play them and chat as we do it. It helps because sometimes there's nothing to say, and it's an awful lot more engaging than 4 player Halo. I've got a small pile of them building under the stereo in the living room.

Is it that rare? I suppose that most of my friends at least know what 40k is, mostly through Dawn of War, but relatively few of them actually play it or know much about it.

Anyway, as for others, I do count myself an amateur astronomer. I'm lucky enough to live in the rather rural Mid-Wales, the nearest cities a good 50 miles away or so, so I get little light pollution compared to most of Europe. Using my particularly nice set of 70x15 Celestron binoculars, the sky is more star than black.
