Say whaat, not a very original thread, but what the hell.
The motherflippin' genuis of Tim Smith and 'his band' Cardiacs. They're fucking insane, and I mean flat out crazy, but the amount of ideas and harmonies in single songs are incredible. They are said to have more ideas within one song than most artists have in their entire career, and Tim Smith encrypts the messages to the point of utter subjectivity. They put chaos in order, and successfully merge psychedelia with punk, prog rock and pop. The morale of listening to Cardiacs is that if you are a good listener, you will fall in love with the hard work and insane details put into every song. They've inspired [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Smith_(musician)#Influence] great artists such as Steven Wilson and System Of A Down.
Beginners' album: A Little Man And A House And The Whole World Window
The Masterpiece: Sing To God (don't worry about the album title, things aren't always what they seem)
EDIT: Cardiacs is being credited for inventing the "Pronk" genre (progressive punk). Unfortunately, Tim Smith suffered a severe stroke in 2008 and has been recovering ever since.
