I have nothing against real psychology, the stuff that actually makes perfect sense and is proved by repetitive correlation. But alot of the the other 'theories' are completely buried in nonsense and speculation.
That's what a theory is?
Theory has grounding in fact, these are more akin to a hypothesis.

Strong Morals Make Strong Bodies

The team conducted two studies. The first gave subjects a dollar and told them to either keep it or donate it to charity. The subjects were then asked to hold up a 5lb weight for as long as they could.

The team found that those who were charitable could keep the weight up for an average of ten seconds longer than those who kept the money.

The second test asked participants to write short stories in which they helped people, hurt people or didn't affect people at all, and then again were asked to hold up a weight. Again, those who had done good deeds were stronger than the neutral group, but interestingly, those who had done bad deeds were stronger still.

As weird as the methodology sounds, I'm not about to second guess a bunch of Harvard psychologists.

Why not Question them, a bunch of Harvard psychologists can make mistakes too!
I would have to know more about these experiments before I can believe this, not just because it?s hard to believe, but on how they ran the experiments.
They may be Researchers at Harvard, but it still seems.......like they?re missing something.

When an article is published in a science journal, it is reviewed by peers a couple of times. The linked article on the telegraph doesn't give any insight on specific results of the study (like how long did the hold the weight on average and more precise details) but i'm sure they're in the journal that's published.

They're not saying you become a superman if you do good or evil deeds. They're saying that doing good/evil deeds, you'll be more able than if stand there picking your nose. It's a bit like saying that someone who thinks he can do something will try harder than someone who already gave up.

I'm going to test this out on myself, I'll give to charity then lift weights, then I'll steal my nephews chocolates and lift more weights, see what the result are.

I'm off to the shops now to find a chugger (that means charity mugger, because they mug you in the name of charity)

..Give me ten minutes.
Seems logical to me.

Lift weights.

Steal something.

Lift more weights.

Steal more.

Lift more. RARAAAWWWRRR!!! your biceps just exploded.

Did they also do a similar experiment asking people if they wanted to eat some toast, cereal or have a dollar that they could use to buy something later.

I think it is like having a strong will to do something. Whether it is for following a stronger set of morals or lifting weights, you need to have will.

Seriously, what a load of bollocks. Where are the real doctors?
Because psychiatrists and psychologists never help people, EVER.

/sarcasm
Yes, when the help actually makes sense.

Sigmund Freud's daughter theorised that children play with their food because in actual fact, they want to play with their own poo. Basic psychology helps people. The more advanced areas are bordering on crazy speculation.

When I read this, my first thought was the old Simpsons episode when Ned Flanders and Marge are in a play (I think it was a musical version of A Streetcar Named Desire). Ned takes off his shirt, and he is ripped with a body that would make Chuck Norris blush.

Of course, I think Marge ends up imagining something bad Homer did to "get into character", flips out, and beats up Ned. Although that may not be an indication of his lesser strength, but his moral character that prevents him from fighting back.

Not that it proves anything; but then, I question whether the study in the article proved anything, either...

I gave 2 pounds to charity and held a 10kg weight in front of me for 45 seconds before I felt I needed to try hard to keep it up

Then I ate my nephews sweets and did the same for 1.21 minutes... of course the candy could have given me energy to do the task.

I'm gonna kick some puppies, see how buff I get doing that.

Interesting

I question if I have particularly strong views. I have views that a lot of people disagree with, so I guess I must be doing something right

I think they just made a coorelation out of a coincidence. You can just as easily say 'strong bodies make strong morals'. That will work from the results of this study as well. However, there is one basic flaw: children.

A child, when 'blessed' with a strong body will often use it to bully others into doing what he wants. Does this always happen? Well, how often is your child suspended for beating up the school bully?

What makes strong bodies? Driven people. People who live with a set routine that includes healthy diet and exercise. Genetics, to some degree will give you a larger frame and stronger body. Going to church and being religious will NOT make you stronger. It's like that episode of family guy where they wanted to become jewish so that they would be smarter and able to do math, it just DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY. This is bad science.

Really dont see how this can be measured so easilly, so im going to take it with a pinch of salt.

But, if this is true then goes to prove why goodguy always wins in the end, lol
The good guys are genuinely good, the evil ones just greedy. If the evil one were true evil, like prototype evil, then the results may differ.
