Haven't heard of that one.
That kid's going to prison though.
Why? He defended himself, the intruder attacked him.
because in most states, there are no longer any self defense laws. we gave up that right for the illusion of safety.
Please explain. What do you mean by illusion of safety?

Let's be honest on what really happened. Burglar breaks into guy's house. Guy is scared/pissed off. Guy gets a sword, freaks out when confronted by burglar, and maims and then kills him. That's not self-defense. That's not even close. The burglar was wrong, but he didn't deserve to die because of it. The student should go to jail. The end.
The guy told the burglar to leave, and the burglar refused and charged at the guy. What else did you want him to do? Tell the burglar "Pretty please?"? And why would that incredibly thick burglar confront a person wielding a sword?

It's true that the guy should of just ran outside and informed his neighbors, but we're talking about the situation that he was in before.

Im having a hard time believing this happened like the kid said it did. I've had enough experiences with sharp construction blades and saws(its hard to say that without sounding stupid) that this leads me to think this kid cornered him and tried to teach him a lesson that went to far, maybe on accident. Even with the sharpest equipment its gonna require force and weight behind a blow to take someones hand off. if he was acting defensely I seriously doubt he would have done that much damage. Blood Splatter tests will decide this kids fate. (yaay dexter)
I agree, it's all seems a bit fishy.

The kid said the guy forced him against the wall, so how did he have enough room to swing the sword with enough force to cut his hand off?

Also a neighbour reports hearing a scream, ""There was fear in the voice. I could tell someone was scared," - which I can only assume was made by the burglar after having his hand (almost) chopped off... so why did the kid need to kill him with a second blow?

My sceptical side is thinking that there was a lot of room between them, enough for the kid to swing his sword, which the burglar tried to block and lost his hand, then the kid slashed him in the chest to stop his screaming.

However, if the kid only attacked him once, chopped off his hand and fatally cut his chest with one blow, how could have he made that blow when the burglar had him pinned up against the wall? If the burglar's hand was close enough to his chest for the blow to cut through it and cut deeply into his chest, then he must have had his hand pretty close to his chest, not lunging at the kid as reported.

One thing I know for sure, it's more fun to put my Quincy head on, assume the kid is hiding something and to try to work out what really happened from what little is reported.

Quincy thinks he was pissed off that his Playstation and Laptop were stolen and decided to teach someone a lesson.

No hes not.
Swords are legal to own.

If someone trespasses on your property, hes already fair game for force if he doesn't leave.
If he threatens your life, your allowed to defend yourself by any means necessary. HOWEVER, if you disarm and or defeat him, you cant use excessive force to kill him, if hes not fighting back anymore, only restrain him.

Or at least thats the law in America.

Hell, in America, a guy shot 2 dudes breaking into his NEIGHBORS house and didnt get charged.

SB 870 talks about self defense and justified uses of force against any intruder. [link]http://mlis.state.md.us/2006rs/fnotes/bil_0000/sb0870.pdf[/link]

The intruder deserved it. The man told him to leave, he didn't, and he instead chose to attack the man. All the man was doing was defending himself from an attacker. The fact that he used a sword just made him cooler.
This. People need to lay off accusing/jailing those who defend themselves. And this means one less criminal wandering the streets.

That is pretty weird. I mean, who keeps a sword with them anyways? Kinning the guy was probabl the only option, but jeez...

Did he kill him on purpose,Or was it just randomly attacking with his sword due to the surprise of being attacked?

If it was accidental,Then it was only manslaughter (very sweet term) so I don't think he'll be in too much trouble.

Otherwise...bye bye student -light cackle-

Why do people think this kid is going to prison? we live in America if your life is threatened you may save your own with lethal force if needed.

I highly doubt that will be the case.

If he stabbed him in the front it is self defense, it is generally when you wound someone in the back that they begin an investigation.

That is badass haha! Steal the guys stuff, get messed up. I for one would have grabbed a firearm and then called the cops, but he got the job done.
