I listen to "Busdriver" an awesomely intelligent, insanely fast and just plain crazy rapper.

If I'm doing accounting homework, then Alkaline Trio. If it is anything else (programming, web dev, writing papers) then usually some type of metal.

At first glance at the thread's title, I thought the OP was considering studying music, to which my initial advice would have been a simple word: Don't.

But my 'study music' is pretty much anything on my computer, as I generally can't be assed to skip tracks unless I'm kinda pissed off. So, a choice between classic 80s stuff, Gary Moore (also 80s, but worth noting), HIM, TF2 soundtrack or random 8-bit video game soundtracks from the Sega Mega Drive era.

A mix between Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, and Ben Frost.

If I play anything with vocals it will distract me.

A lot of instrumentals are good. I also like They Might Be Giants for studying, preferably their album Flood.

It can't be anything with lyrics or I start to hum along. Recently it's been either Terra FIrma -The Adventures of Terra Firma (The electronic group not the rap group) or B.T- This Binary Universe:

Soo chilled and yet exciting.

I like to listen to Video game or Film/television soundtracks....music designed to be in the background! Nothing is more relaxing than musical wallpaper!
though I have to skip the "fight" songs on RPG soundtracks......
