Shrek is good. But once you get numbers involved with its name, that's when it starts to get awful.

Mass Effect. My first thoughts on it were "Shooter RPG? Generic save the galaxy plot? Bah."
Then it came out on PC... and I ignored it. One day I was in the mood for a shooter and saw it for 20 bucks, so I picked it up. I never even considered they would create such an interesting, fully-realized universe for it.
...I never got into Star Trek because of technical failings and cheesy writing... Mass Effect is now to me what Star Trek is to so many...

Ok so the beginning tutorial in Goodsprings is shite but after i got the hell outta (with most of the townspeople's caps) it was a really fun game. But then they had to pull a fucking Fallout: 3 and make you wait for DLC so you could continue playing on your original character.

You know, this made me think of a question. Are there ever British remakes of American comedies? I've seen American remakes of Britcoms, and they are just awful.

ive seen both the british version of the Office and the american version, i personally think the american is better.

But ya a lot of the time the remakes we make of british shows are not that great.

The last two episodes of Serial Experiments Lain. Up until then it was just a trudgery of the same character doing different things with next to no personality at all with no real interest and an occasional irrelevant monologue to break up the flow, but then the last two episodes came around and gave me the same 'holy shit' factor I got from Ergo Proxy, so now I have absolutely no fucking idea whether or not I liked SEL.

Magic the Gathering. After seeing the recent MTG based commodoreHustles, I thought that it looks interesting, so I ordered an intro deck for £5.95 and whilst I'm still waiting, I played a few games with my friend who has loads of cards.

It was awesome. Despite being my first game, having 1 mountain land thanks to Boros Garrison, and him even having telepathy, I managed to whittle his health down bit by bit thanks to the Anaba Shaman's special ability (tap 1 red mana and tap the Anaba Shaman to attack player/creature for 1). Towards the end I got a second one and loads of mountains, so I could deal TWO damage every turn (count it, TWO!!!), and he had no cards in his hand. On his last turn (he had 1 health left) he looked very happy to get the card he got. I asked what it was and he said" Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaait's just an island[blue mana]..." and I then beat hm

Whilst I liked the first episode of Chuck I saw (which, by pure coincidence, happened to be a re-run of the pilot despite the show being 2 series in), I never expected to love it so much.

It's fucking brilliant.

Ha, yeah, me here too. I watched the Pilot -- hated it. Came back it around 2 months later, loved it.

Proceeded to borrow the first three series from a freind on DVD..... Watched ever episode back-to-back.

I was up for like..... ever. I think I stayed up two nights running to watch the first three series. Needless to say, my eyes hurt after that.

Glad it was the holiday....

Lord of the Rings (the books, specifically). I loathe medieval/fantasy settings, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading the books. The universe Tolkien created was interesting enough for me to forgive some of the huge flaws in writing.

I also liked the movies, but less.
