So usually we know beofore we play/watch somthing if we will like it or not, but somtimes we get surprised and we eather don't or do like it, its about personal taste
I think its different than being disapointed because the huge expectation isn't there
Ive good two examples, one game and one non game
AVATAR- the reason I "should" like this movie is because I love sci fi, and its directed by james cameron and its a huge hit whats not to love? I dont hate AVATAR but Im not blown away by it like I would assume, the reason is I can't take sides, I am sympathetic to the Na'vi but piss me off because they suffer "elf" syndrome, they are so perfect and better than those evil humans and the film takes every opertunity to tell us this, that we should be self loathing
the humans while I am also sympathetic to their plight are going about things by being douches, that never works, but obviously they arnt genre savy, and for somthing praised for being an orginal story its not that original (yes, big corporations and destroying the environment are BAD we know this), in fact another sci fi that has similar themes is district 9 and that handled it a million times better
Dragon age- oposite, by all logic I should dislike this, the plot is very straight forward defeat the big bad and the gameplay is not my thing at all, also I am generally not interested in high fantasy because it usually feels like tolkein table scraps
but for some reason I love this game and I love the story, I think that while its all very formula its done well....VERY well, its like Lord of the rings just for me, and the elves arnt arrogant pricks! I enjoyed playing as an elf as well
Dead space- is a straight example, its cliche and not even scary but I love it anyway because its everything I like
