So usually we know beofore we play/watch somthing if we will like it or not, but somtimes we get surprised and we eather don't or do like it, its about personal taste

I think its different than being disapointed because the huge expectation isn't there

Ive good two examples, one game and one non game

AVATAR- the reason I "should" like this movie is because I love sci fi, and its directed by james cameron and its a huge hit whats not to love? I dont hate AVATAR but Im not blown away by it like I would assume, the reason is I can't take sides, I am sympathetic to the Na'vi but piss me off because they suffer "elf" syndrome, they are so perfect and better than those evil humans and the film takes every opertunity to tell us this, that we should be self loathing

the humans while I am also sympathetic to their plight are going about things by being douches, that never works, but obviously they arnt genre savy, and for somthing praised for being an orginal story its not that original (yes, big corporations and destroying the environment are BAD we know this), in fact another sci fi that has similar themes is district 9 and that handled it a million times better

Dragon age- oposite, by all logic I should dislike this, the plot is very straight forward defeat the big bad and the gameplay is not my thing at all, also I am generally not interested in high fantasy because it usually feels like tolkein table scraps

but for some reason I love this game and I love the story, I think that while its all very formula its done well....VERY well, its like Lord of the rings just for me, and the elves arnt arrogant pricks! I enjoyed playing as an elf as well

Dead space- is a straight example, its cliche and not even scary but I love it anyway because its everything I like

Mastodon. I really should like this band, considering my taste in music, but I just don't. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like a few of their songs, and I certainly don't think they're bad, I just can't get into it at all.

Dragon age is the same for me as the Op, it shouldn't be my kinda game at all; I generally hate rpgs, and am largely indifferent to the fantasy genre, but I loved the story in it. In fact what I usually do is put it on the easiest difficulty, press x once per fight whilst having a cup of tea and wait for more story!

Bioware really need to get better at this whole gameplay business...

Competitive online gaming. I'm supposed to like it, I'm supposed to like the challenge apparently, and seeing how good I am or something. Quite frankly it's dull.

Apparently the Call of Duty franchise. I just don't enjoy it but people seem to think I would.

Based on my tastes in music, I should love Apocalyptica, but I really don't like them much.

You're not supposed to like the Call of Duty Franchise. You're supposed to endure it.

A lot of my mates have been raving about GTA IV, even though it's been out for a while. I didn't much like the other ones, but was assured that this one was better. I picked it up to give it a go, and I have to say that I absolutely DO NOT care for it. Frankly, I found it to be shit. In contrast, when I picked up Red Dead Redemption, I really liked it.

haha yes thats exactly what I did too, (except I'm ashamed to say I still find "easy" hard)

I think it has somthing to do with bioware because other similar games Like Oblivion and the witcher just don't compare as well for me

I don't like Rockstar sandbox games like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. They're tedious!! The controls are insane and there's so much travel...all the time. At least if there was no punishment for going fast like in Saints Row 2 (mixed feelings on this one though) it would be better but it takes forever.

Something I like...Modern Warfare 2. I know, I know, bring it on haters. I thought this game was better than CoD4 and better than Black Ops, and what made it great for me was that it brought back that old school multiplayer action where four friends would huddle in the couch playing splitscreen. Remember that, when your friends were actually in the room with you? Good times:)

I'm also gettin' to the point where easy is starting to get a bit challenging... Perhaps because I do nothing but auto level (which I was told after is bad), and inadvertently killed Wyn (who I'm told is the only healer in the game) and Morrigan doesn't know any healing spells because she autolevelled... -.-

I think Star Ocean: The Last Hope (PS3 version, mind you) applies to me here. It's a JRPG about exploration. Not gameplay wise, but you do have the option of running around a large, open area. The combat's some of the best I've ever seen in a JRPG and it looks pretty.

The downsides are that there's absolutely no reason to explore because there's nothing to find (in contrast to Tales of Symphonia where you could find special long-range stones, treasures and, best of all, the characters having conversations of good anarchic humour) and there are thousands of enemies in an area at a time, all of which very time consuming and broken up by unforgivably flow-disrupting fight whooshes, so the combat, while good, gets really boring really fast.

Also, the textures look wrong; the metal on Bacchus' body, for example, looks more like tinfoil and papier mache rather than steel (and the characters look more like automated mannequins rather than human beings (yes, I know the overwhelming majority of them are aliens, but that's not the point)). In addition, the cutscenes go on for ages and they don't pause when you press the Start button (which, in regards to the grammar, seems kind of fair, but shut up).

But the worst part, the WORST part, is the characters, more specifically Edge 'Tosser' Maverick (I love the name change system). Not only is he an utter moron who is now rivalling Cloud in angst power, but every other character- and the game itself, probably- constantly harps on us to the point of Anviliciousness that he is a hero we should bow to him due to his greatness, his leadership ability, his selflessness, his idealism, his competence and his dashing good looks when he's not being an accidental pervert (why the hell was he staring at the obviously occupied shower for yonks?) shouting at people who can kill them in a single moment, angsting over causing the death of an entire planet's population that he haven't seen or given the opportunity to care about, giving obviously antagonists important MacGuffins that they will inevitably use to destroy whole planets and in general holding the Hero Ball like an ancient family heirloom.

..there isn't a punishment for going fast. Where the hell did you get that from?

And both games have a 'fast travel' option as well...

I like Final Fantasy.

I love Turn-Based Strategy.

By this logic, I should adore Final Fantasy Tactics.

I don't. I hate it.

you killed wyne? wow I didn't know that was possible

I also realised that I missed out on a companion, lelinia or somthing I just simply assumed she was DLC since I didnt find her, in fact I really need to do another extensive playthrough but with my current backlog and the amount of time that would take I couldnt do it in time for the seaquel,

plus Im still on the archdeamon because im so retarded at the playing the actual game, I have to finish it before I try the sequel (because the story dose carry over which is awsome!)

I should like Xcom, turn based strategy and aliens and lazors and such, but I don't like it when my men die. There's no point in naming them and analyzing their stats to determine their perfect role when they can all be instakilled at a moment's notice. :'(

I also should like STALKER SoC, but I'm OCD and bread and ammo and guns and vodka all weigh so much, and it's a long crawl back to base...

Grand Theft Auto - I like sandbox games, I like running around causing mayhem, I just get bored after a couple hours. The thing is I don't want to be messing around with some kind of plot, which the game expects you to do. Unlike Dead Rising, which gives you the option of a plot, or Oblivion, which gives you tons of unrelated side quests, some of which could be entire games in themselves.

Final Fantasy VIII - it's supposed to be the worst entry in the series, that did everything wrong, but I find it to be one of the freshest and most original games in the RPG genre.
