My parents seem to think that merely giving me shelter and food is considered good parenting.

Now, I appreciate that and all, but where's the love?

My mum is sensitive about sex and swearing. Very, very, VERY sensitive.

If my parents are watching a movie and there is a sudden outburst of sexytime or salty language, She storms out of the room AS LOUD AS SHE CAN and later a shouting match ensues.

Really fucking annoying.

"The fool considers himself wise, and the Wise knows himself to be a fool."

I would not dare to be impudent enough to think I were better than my parents.

My dad is very encouraging, if I want to try weed or something, he's already offered to buy some that he knows is safe. He's let me drink whenever I wanted to, so I don't really drink too much, and I rarely get drunk. He's been my soccer coach and fencing instructor most of my life.

My mom didn't really like kids, so she and I were distant til I was about 14, when we started talking more. She and I just kinda get along, but for no real reason. She nags me a lot though, although I also deserve some of it.

Pride is a sin only when it creates evil.
Or something like that, I wanted t counter your quote with an equally serious sounding one :p

My parents are Christian. It's been interesting because when I was ten they had to shelter me from evil movies with *gasp* sex and swearing, now I have to shelter them when suggesting a movie.

Also they're Christian and keep asking when my boyfriend and I are going to get married.

Hmmm.

As for my father, he really is a complete wuss. Not in that he's a weak person, but that he is often too gentle. People at his work have been messing with him for years but he continues being nice to them and cutting deals, even though he should've told them the truth ten years ago. And it's not a "he can't because he'll be fired case" - aside from the fact that his work is so specialized he's pretty much unreplacable, my mother has been telling him the same for years.

Also, he loves cleaning, which can be REALLY annoying. Some time ago me and my brother were making a milkshake for the four of us, I opened the cupboard and put four glasses on the sink. I literally turned around, took about ten seconds to look at the blender my brother was playing with, turned back, and my dad had put the glasses into the dishwasher.

As for my mother, she doesn't know how to distanciate herself from stuff. There's loads of things at play at her work and she can get completely worked up over it, even at him. I have to keep telling her to stop caring for a bit now and then.

I actually get along with my parents mostly they just do weird things sometimes like show up at my apartment without even calling me than complaining that i wasnt even awake when they got there.

However my dad is extremely like me eerily so in his interest in a lot of movies and videogames but we are both extremely stubborn so we will get into odd fights all the time about the most trivial things in the world and my mom hates us for it.

My mom I love to death but gets extremely depressed sometimes so it gets hard to talk to her at months at a time sometimes because some odd thing is getting her down and no one can seem to cheer her up so I end up having to play the good son and talk to her on the phone for an hour or two because my dad is busy at work and my siblings dont always talk to my mom as much as i do. So even though i find my parents cool they do some weird things to make life complicated.

My mother watches episodes of TV shows that we already have on DVD. And she says she hates the ads.
Sorry we can't all be tech savvy enough to unlock the mystical wonders of a DVD player. Don't be such an elitist, jerk.
I still live with my mother and love her very much. I would be happy to help her put on a DVD. Besides, I'm fairly sure she knows how to do it anyway. This is less of a 'stupid' thing that my mother does, than an oddly illogical quirk of hers.

My mom will yell at me about how she did things around the house that an hour ago she was thanking me for doing... Oh well. She lets me live here for free, she can do and say basically whatever the hell she wants.

I can't really beat you on that, although I'm going to be very presumptous and assume from your name that you're an emo or goth. And while I think emos and goths are all smashing chaps usually, they do tend to exaggerate tales of parental distress.

My pet peeve is that my dad used to play Zelda and Mario and Goldeneye back in the day for 12 hours straight and be a real hardcore gamer but now whenever he sees me playing he gives out to me.
Bad assumption, mate. I'm a dark person, but I'm not "Goth" and certainly not "Emo." Eugh.

And, it's not like my parents beat me with spikey objects or something. I wanted this thread to be more whimsical than "My parents watched while..." (I can't even finish that sentence.)

No, it's not like my parents are bad people, I just think that these things they do are totally silly. I wonder if you even read the post, because you make it sound like I think they're some permutation of Satan or something. I can't get my father to play the games or listen to the music I like, and my mother watches Fox News. I don't even know how I can exaggerate that... o_o

Well my dad gives me advice on life even when he's on jail. He's also one of the best liers I've ever known. He's also a ladies man. He actually got my grandma (his mom) to give him 5000 bucks to go to Las Vegas for a job interview. Turns out that job interview was actually a hot date with a Vegas chick he met awhile back. I respect his intelligence though, I'll give him that much.

My mom is one of those people that always loves to be on the defensive. If I do something wrong then she always blames me. Even if I didn't mean to do it she still harps on me. When I try to come back at her though, she always plays the blame game and makes me feel like crap. I don't talk to her much but, I still do love her. She's been through a lot, including many crappy relationships (even one abusive one) o I try to stand by her. Sometimes that woman makes me want to scream though. -_-.

Really, though, you totally stole the thread there. Lol.

It's terrible that your parents aren't more caring. o_O I'd have probably enjoyed the freedom, but with the lack of friends I had in high school, thems woulda' been tough breaks for me. I'd probably have the accent of golem or something from lack of communication.

If you get rich and they try to mooch off of you, don't give them a penny. XD

My parents tell they love me and support me, but they show it so...strange, so angry. Lots of shouting, lots of name calling. It's like they don't want me to be me, when I say I'm a nerd they say things like "Shouldn't you change that then?" since nerd is a swearword for them.

I can't say I ever felt really loved, or even wanted, it's like I'm an obligation for my parents and they're constantly pushing me to leave this house so they can have a quiet life. I never felt at home here.

I'm sorry, I just tend to take posts like these with a pinch of salt.
Nah, it's cool.

I basically just wanted to laugh at the crazy antics of other people's parents.

Instead I kinda' created a swamp of "BAWWWW PERANTS."

Shoulda' known better.

(Though I understand your pinch of salt thing.)
