Ending the way the Darren Shan saga did. CURSE YOUUUU! You were headed for nigh perfection, and you swerved wildly out to the side! Control yourself Darren!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, when
Fenchurch just got deleted like she was nothing.
That made me so mad. Something as beautiful like that deserves an epic and worthy ending, if it hás to get an ending, but noooo...

I don't know how many of you supernatural horror/mystery fans worship at the altar of Koontz, but I'm a big fan of his "Odd Thomas" series. One of the hallmarks of the series is the titular character's quirkiness, down-to-Earth attitude (despite being a link between this world and the next), and ability to get out of tough situations using only his wits and what he has in his pockets. No, it's not like Macgyver.

So the fourth book in the series, "Odd Hours", came out last year, and what did Koontz do? He made Odd into this gun-toting, action movie style "badass". Granted, this time he was dealing with armed terrorists, but the entire situation and the way Odd handled it still seemed grossly out of character.

Between that at the lackluster second book, "Forever Odd", I'm starting to think this series might be cursed in such a way that only the odd numbered ones are good... Fitting, I suppose, but disappointing.

Spoiler Alert.

Dan Abnett killing off Bragg in Guns of Tanith. Why did the big guy have to die?
Amen, Cuu ftl :( i miss the big man.

Though honestly speaking this doesnt classify as a stupid thing to do by the author, its normal for a big series with loads main characters that some of them die eventually.

(ps. i miss soric :( )
Yeah but I could understand Soric, Corbec, Mkvenner (while not dying, being written out of the series) and all the other awesome character's that have been written out, but not Bragg, he alway's seemed far too awesome to be killed off. I'm waiting for Varl to get killed off, then I will cry.

EDIT: I forgot Caffran, damn that one was sad as hell.

Every Stephen King ending.
Ya, IT was a great movie and they ruined the ending completely. I mean, they made his final form a giant spider that wasn't shown before. And they kill it by pushing it over and beating it to death.
But that's the movie version. The book sounds worse since it has turtles in a god-like position.

What do you think the stupidest thing that an author has done in their book or story?

Spoiler alert: Mine would be when James Patterson made his 4th book in the Maximum Ride series. For those of you who don't know, the series was about a group of kids who were genetic experiments from a research facility. They escaped and worked to bring down the facility that created them. The 3rd book ended the series and tied up just about all the loose ends.
And then...
There was a 4th book. Not only did it untie some of the loose ends, it completely went offtopic and was nothing like the other books. There was a main antagonist, but they weren't shown that often. For the most part, the characters ran around and learned about global warming. The main antagonist? Well, the climax took place in a secure building where a hurricane was hitting. However, the hurricane was stronger than normal due to global warming, and it broke through the building and killed the main antagonist. To sum it up, they took a good series and made it into a story where they just preached about the horrors of global warming.
Oh god, I liked that series until the final book. That pissed me off.

For me it's the ending of Tick Tock, by Dean Koontz.

I read good books, so the worst was Alfred Kropp:The Seal of Soloman's absolutely unforgivable Deus ex Machina.

Alfred is about to be executed, in the middle of nowhere, when the good guys bust through and kill the guy who's gonna execute him. This was never planned, never spoken of, just WHAPPA! you're saved!

------------------------

Also about the 4th Max Ride, I also feel that he toned it down way to much.
I the first three books you got gritty descriptions of fights, now it's ljust like, "I hit him in the jaw and he said, 'ARGH.'"

I'm a literary [pick one of the following: geek, nerd, snob, prat, douche], and a hopeless romantic, but I hated 'Romeo and Juliet.' I just think its mere existence is very dumb.

Okay, yes, it's a play, but it's still a work of fiction and it's read in many English classes.

The ending is very good, because the two main characters- whom I detested most- die, and then the damn thing is DONE.

*sniffle* I love happy endings.

Honour Guard from the Gaunts Ghosts series, by Dan Abnett.

It builds up and references and makes a huge show and tell about an ending...that is summed in a paragraph...hah...wtf?

Allow the writer of "Twilight" an outlet to her lonely deppersion and keeping her from not commiting suicide, or preferably going to a mental institute.

How about The Andromeda Strain by Michael Cricthon? If you haven't heard of it, let me sum it up for you:

There's a super-virus from space that kills everyone in a small town. Scientists capture virus and go to secret underground lab to analyze virus. Virus gets loose. Scientists are trapped inside. Oh noz. BUT THEN, the virus mutates into a harmless, rubber-dissolving virus.

Biggest suck out I've ever read.

As much as I'm sure there will be enough Twilight hate to go around on this thread --

Pretty much all of Breaking Dawn was ridiculous. The whole idea of Bella being pregnant and then having the child and then "sex is awesome as a vampire lolz" was bad enough, but the Volturi are made out to be a giant group of unforgiving dictators. So they come all the way from Italy to deal with the half human/vampire situation and then just go "Okay we're going home and will leave you in peace"?

Completely unbelievable. They all should have been executed right there.

I would say "The Lovely Bones" which starts off with
a child rape, then a brilliant view of an alternate heaven, and then...moans, whines and splutters towards the end
You wouldn't imagine the plot from reading the title. I remember reading it a few years ago and thought it was pretty strange. The film is probably going to be interesting too

Given that Peter Jackson (Yes, THAT PJ) is directing it...I'm ...well....I'm sort of at a loss what to think.
