I have to go with Star Ocean 3's "The entire universe as you know it is a giant MMORPG."
That was just so unnecessary. And it effected every single Star Ocean game, and that will ever be made.

I think it's better off to just pretend that the twist never happened.

"it was all a dream"

Really? So then the experience was a complete waste of time.
Actually depending on how that's implemented, that can actually work quite well; but it has to be done right.

I actually liked that one. I thought it was rather Matrix-ish.

OT: As for me, I was watching this movie a couple weeks back called Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain and the plot twist at the end comes out of nowhere. The movie is one of those Texas Chainsaw Massacre type things where a group of people go to a place and get absconded by a group of psychos etc. etc. Look it up if you're really interested. Anyway the one girl that ends up getting away ends up at this old lady's cabin and the old lady is like "oh you're the only one whose ever gotten away." and whatever, but then the survivor girl suddently gets this Grinch-like psychotic smile on her face and then grabs a knife and stabs the old lady for no apparent reason and then cut to black, movies over. WHAT?? There was nothing in the movie that said the the psychosis was contagious. I was actually expecting the old lady to turn out to be with the psychos and kill her.

Hmm, I have to go with Bionic Commando with your girlfriend is your arm. Or whatever it was, I sort of blanked it from my mind.

The thing with the forest "coming alive" at the end of Macbeth.
That really sucked.
Really? It was just like the other predictions - an ambiguous prophetic statement that ended up meaning something different than he had originally assumed (just like the deal with "none of woman born" and the c-section).

Similarly, it's worth noting that the "it was all just a dream" thing can be done well. It's often used as a convenient excuse to retcon poor planning, but there are numerous extremely striking uses where it was planned from the beginning. Arguably the first use, the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is extremely poignant and there have been a lot of other series where the fact that certain things were just dreams makes them more meaningful. Even the "or was it?" thing has been done quite well before.

As for mine, the thing with the goddamn trees (well maybe, it doesn't even commit to its terrible twist!) killing everyone was pretty bad, but HOLY FUCK the ending to Battlestar Galatica was the most gratuitous asspull in living memory.

The correct ending for DR2 was actually A and not S.
When you think about it, it IS a twist :/ considering Case West continues from ending A and Capcom said that was canon...

Ever since star wars with the whole "Luke, I am your father" thing, many stories have used the twist that the bad guy is really the main character's father (or brother or any other close family member). I think that lately this twist has been done a lot.

"Oh, btw, all of you that have been working together, SURPRISE! You are from the same orphanage! You just all forgot due to using summon magic. Neat huh?"

Okay, I give up - I guessed that plot twist but it was still pretty good.

"I/He is your real father."
This one is more hit and miss then pure hate. I liked it in Star Wars, Wanted, and probably a couple of other times, but this can be sooooo cliched. And I absolutely hate it when any comedy does a parody of the Star Wars scene. It is never funny. Just really really lame.
I guess I'm a little off topic.

The Tourist (yes I watched that film, don't laugh).

So anyway the twist is painfully obvious and doesn't make any sense. Why would you go through the process of changing your appearence and voice, just so that you could be with Angelina Jolie.

And don't get me started on the stupidity of the police in that movie.

Dan Brown's "Digital Fortress".

So, basically, the delta force team turns out to be BEING CONTROLLED BY THE HEAD OF THE NSA! Shock horror... Out of absolutely, fucking NOWHERE.

Actually, any of Dan Brown's books have stupid plot twists...

Did someone say "Angels and Demons"?

The pope branded himself and is actually a bad guy... WHAT?
