Anime sort of disturbs me... its like watching spongebob and patrick brutally carve eachother into what resembles mincemeat, and sandy the squirrl has massive boobs. Ok now I have to go dig out those thoughts with a screwdriver...
What kind of Anime have you been watching?!

Films. Akira and Ghost In The Shell.
I didn't really like ghost in the shell all that much. I got lost after the first few minutes so it was pretty much downhill from there.
Well that's a shame. To be honest, just read everyone's posts here and take the series which appear in everyone's recommendations.
That be a good idea, allthough itll probably be just the stuff I can find on the internet and mooch of off my anime loving cousins because although im interested, not willing to pay for anything (yet).

I got into anime by watching the Studio Ghibli movies. I think all of that is worth checking out particularly the stuff by Hayao Miyazaki.

Last night (I think) I was on a bunch of Anime related threads disputing a number of things with anime fans including the english language, trolling, how to spell Hannah, the quote button and why I don't like anime (I keep wanting to put a capital A at in anime for some reason). Now I said at one point (I think) that I have tried to like anime or at least find out what the big deal was about it in the past and failed to do so. But mabye I was going about it the wrong way so what would you suggest to someone who has hated the subject for years but would be interested to find out if I could like it?

Oh and as a side note I cannot stand subtitles on anything so I don't think any of the non-translated stuff that alot of people seem to enjoy would work for me.
I too hate the majority of anime. One exception to that is Ghost in the Shell, one of the only anime films I've ever enjoyed. Try it.

M.D. Giest, an unsung hero of the eighties, started off a bit iffy because the director was young. Its since been cleaned up and the directors cut is superb. Also its on a level with Devil Man in terms of blood and gore.

When They Cry(higurashi no naku koro ni)

Anime or anime doesn't matter, アニメ is the native spelling anyway.

Cowboy Bebop, haven't met a person who didn't like it. And the English language versions are great.

I probably just lost all my man-points with everyone here, but Princess Tutu is worth further investigation. Just stay with it until the second season. Like many of you are probably thinking, I, too, thought that there was no possible way that it could be good, but I have found a diagram that shows how my opinion has changed.

You might want to put your balls in an envelope and mail them off somewhere, I dont think youll be needing them anymore.

Yeah...unlike everyone else just naming my favourite anime i'm going to actually bother asking: "What do you like?"

Because asking "name a good anime" is like me asking "name a good TV show", i'll get everything from comedies to horrors to romances to animal documentaries thrown at me. And while sure you'll no doubt get a lot of good shows sent in your direction, you probably won't enjoy half of them, because they're not you're type.

So what do you want from a show? gore? nudity? sex? violence? fighting? humour? romance? mechs? magic? superpowers? The list kinda goes on, and there is no doubt an Anime to cover much every combination.

that show is suprisingly really good imo, has a great story and some good action.

but still

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, is single handedly one of the coolest things ever. grab every character from every anime, movie, video game ever and let them use there most powerful attacks on Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and he would then destroy them by scratching his ass.

When They Cry (higurashi no naku koro ni)!!! that 1 is a must watch set, it starts off with a creepy preview to show a part of the outcome, then shows the build up, and finishes with some psychotic twist. then it does it all over again with a different outcome. if you stick with it untill the end it starts making sense (sort of) and has a more coherent story (again, sort of) by the fist few episodes of the second season (higurashi no naku koro ni kai) unfortunately though, i dont think the second season has been dubbed yet, or at least ive never seen it on dvd. i watched online with subs.
