Know what you mean bro, Phantom has a rough ending. Happy endings, you could give FMA or FMA: Brotherhood a shot. Busou Renkin is probably a little immature for your tastes but you could give it a shot. Code Geass has a relatively happy ending, but I imagine you've already seen it. Gundam 00, Dance in the Vampire Bund, Birdy: The mighty Decode, Mononoke Hime(though I'm sure you've seen it), any of those might work for you. Frankly, I tend to watch anime as a stress relief so I mostly watch shonen, sorry I couldn't be more help, but I hope at least one of these will be what you're looking for.Fappy said:I've made a "Suggest an Anime" thread in the past, but this time I'm looking for something a bit more specific. You see, it's just my luck that every time I pick a new anime to watch it will likely have an incredibly sad ending. I usually don't have a problem with these kinds of stories as tragic endings can be quite beautiful if done right, however after finishing Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom tonight my heart is a bit more weary than usual and I could really use a pick-me-up. I'm not really asking for a lighthearted fun anime, but rather a dramatic, mature anime that despite everything that happens to the characters ends on a positive note. It can be a bittersweet ending, but I really need more sweet than bitter right now.
Thanks in advance guys :3

...what do you mean it's not got a happy ending? Didn't you see the last episode?

Why not end of evangelion as well? That movie is dramatic beyond belief to the point of being so challenging it makes people dislike itRastrelly said:Original NGE (not End of Evangelion).
You keep ninja-ing me--I was going to recommend VoE.UncleUlty said:To be fair that's how the manga ends the fourth volume(the last one before the time skip),and it's slice of life so that kind of ending tends to happen. Plus that final image of the show is still burned in my mind.Smertnik said:Bunny Drop (That's more of a lighthearted one, though. And the ending isn't really memorable, the series sort of just ends)
OT:Now and Then, Here and There, the things that happen through out this series are just plain horrible but there is this underlying sense of hope that keeps you going.
There is also Vision Of Escaflowne, a decent mix of fantasy and mecha with a sweet ending.Though there is a really outplace section where the shojo elements seem to be more prominent and the bad guy has a machine to make people fall in love. It felt really weird in a series where both the shonen and shojo parts were in perfect harmony.Overall really good.
Just because TS wanted more or less happy/positive ending. While I find ending of EoE rather depressing )Zeke63 said:Why not end of evangelion as well? It's simply Evangelion's mind jerking that has rubbed off on me.j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:You are an evil, evil person. I think you might also be a genius.Casual Shinji said:Maybe that was in reference to...j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:Neon Genesis Evangelion.

...Shinji jerking it to Asuka's comatosed jubblies. I mean, just look how happy he is.
Try not remembering that the next time you see that ending. B)

Hey, I just finished watching Steins;Gate and I just wanted to thank you two for the suggestion. It was exactly what I was looking for! Fucking amazing anime.ZehMadScientist said:-Snip-

Just... wow.
EDIT: Just to be clear I am speaking of the OVA ending. Kind of confusing how most places list it as 24 episodes but it doesn't actually end with the 24th episode.
I hope the movie doesn't mess up the perfect ending DXZehMadScientist said:Glad you liked itFappy said:Shinsei-J said:-Snip-Hey, I just finished watching Steins;Gate and I just wanted to thank you two for the suggestion. I followed it as it was airing, and I'm telling you, I had to wait a week after that happened. I was actually depressed. The wait was agony itself.
As for the OVA, that is an anime only thing. A little extra to provide closure that the original visual novel didn't have. Speaking of extras, there is a Steins;Gate movie slated to hit theatres in Japan in a few months. A direct sequel to the tv series.
My body is ready.
I see your reasoning, though, and I didn't do this at first, you can interpret the beach scene at the end as a happy ending if you were to interpret the how disgusting line to be a reference to how depraved both of them are and not just shinji. Shinji stopping his choking and Ausuka's intimate touch could be seen as a final understanding how fucked up they both are and need eachother. Besides it only shows them as the only returned humans, they might just be the first, but either way it's like they are the new progenitors of whatever this reality is. I could get into more detail on this if you don't buy it but that would take way too long.Rastrelly said:Just because TS wanted more or less happy/positive ending. Well, I agree on that EoE is not OMG EPIC FAIL ending, but it makes me think how will do two only people who left on Earth without any food to consume but giant angel form drowning far away ) I just have a bad habit of thinking where will "this beautiful and symbolic ending scene" lead and I often find those not as positive as they were intended XDZeke63 said:I see your reasoning, though, and I didn't do this at first, you can interpret the beach scene at the end as a happy ending if you were to interpret the how disgusting line to be a reference to how depraved both of them are and not just shinji. Anyways, it just doesn't seem to me eva would have the same resonance without end of. Before I knew it existed and just finished the series I left wanting so much more, which the movie eventually fulfilled
