Thats your winner right there, most intensely scary film i've seen in a long time.

I did however like Shrooms(watched it about a week ago). Its quite scary if a tad predictable.

I'd suggest Paranormal Activity or The Fly with Jeff Goldblum. They're both slow building movies, but once they've got you hooked, you'll leave the film shaking in your boots.

The Mist, purely for the ending. It might be wrong to laugh every time I watch it but I can't help myself.

Noroi- though pretty long and kinda slow in a few places this film about a paranormal investigator done in the hand held style of Quarantine or Blair Witch Project has a few scenes that made me sleep with the lights on for a few days.

Reincarnation- Another Japanese film (I'm not sure about the Japanese name) This one is about a movie being made about a deranged scientist who goes on a killing spree at a hotel and the murders start happening again. The finally was really intense and scared the crap out of me.

That one was also very good, so much better than the remake: Quarantine.

Silent Hill.
Ignore the dumb bastards who've probally never seen it and just assume it's shit because it's a video-game-licensed-movie.

PS : I've seen some Movies that claim to be Kiddie movies, but are actually dark, scary, and simply mature. I can name a few off of my hand : Dark Knight, Nihm, Neverending Story, and the list goes on and on.
Weird, these movies are probally the bst in the whole Genre even though they're unintended to be scary.

The Nightmare on Elm street, Scream, and the Shinning. Halloween is not scary at all.

Maybe it won't scare the living daylights out of you, but the ending of The Mist will haunt you forever...

Seriously? That film was not scary, it was funny as hell, especially the ending. It had me in tears i was laughing so hard xD
Cube is quite the mind fuck, i would suggest that.
And if you want true mind numbing terror, then watch starship troopers 2. Its terrifyingly bad and can do bad things to your brain.

I also second this. The ending is one of the scariest i have ever seen, and it makes great use of atmosphere.

I say The Shining, it's definitely slow, but it has an atmosphere unlike any other horror film I've ever watched and it makes it even better by the end.
