Well, this happened [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8foDBekOYM]

Ok. Much more numb than I thought I'd be when this day came.

I did feel more tension than I usually did with Matt and Pat. I thought that was just me. I had a rough couple of months. so I took everything was a harsh tone. Apparently, though, they are no longer friends.

One of the reasons this sucks for me especially is because I'm in a place where I literally have no long time friends near me. I moved away from the Tri-state area in New York for business opportunities. I miss going to my friends' houses and playing some games and laughing all night long. I got a good simulation with that with Friday Night Fisticuffs [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iixYVYW9pJQ&list=PL57hJfweW_2tfzwu20AirdgPTjBgHadqd]. It was something I looked forward to every week.

This also sucks because the Super Couch Fighters [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcROEQoAWOmcppZ6RTTLx6w] broke up in September. I actually laughed more at their stuff than I did Super Best Friends, because they were more into fighting games and that's just one of my favorite genres ever.

It's making me realize how much I depend on youtubers for Familiar Bonds, and how that is unhealthy. I can't work things out with the people I like. I can't treat them better or have a say in what happens. I'm a passive user of content that people actually get paid for. They don't have any loyalty to me. They don't know me.

On the same, it's hard once you get a certain age to find new friends. Literally, I've 'known' and 'laughed with' Super Best Friends when they were Two Best Friends Play. When my friends has less time because they had kids and I didn't, I could still be the single guy 'doing' the same thing with video games and laughing. I just discovered Super Couch Fighters earlier this year when Jessie Cox started to do S"uper Animoo Fighters".

Laughs are laughs. Discussions are Discussions. But when you're really not taking part of it, it's a hold over that might not be beneficial.

I guess it's time to look at my media consumption in a different way. I don't do twitter and stuff like that. I guess I've just been passive all this time. It's probably time to form real connections, but it really gets hard with age.

Anyway, question time. How intertwined are your favorite Social Media Personalities with your life? Have you thought of it? How do you think you'd feel if one of your favorite social media outlets stopped producing content?

Hey mods? This thought was still forming in my brain as I was typing. Originally I had this in Video games because it dealt with Video Game LPers, but maybe this belongs more in Off-Topic Discussion as I got to my main point. Could I get a move?

Saw their video statement on this earlier, and yeah, I feel kinda the same. Bad experience with friends in past has made making new friends hugely worrying and keeping current friendships anxiety inducing. Don't tend to watch any other peeps though, due to reasons, so that's that habit over with.

It's sad to hear another of your preferred online peeps have disbanded recently too, is a double blast of sudden emptiness to dwell upon. Some kitten gifs now cause am bad at saying helpful things;

Random guys who did a couple of decent funny videos.
The random guys who did a lot funny videos. I knew this was coming at some point. Some of their latest videos just seemed like they were not all in sync with each other. I saw the announcement before going to see the new Spider-Man. I'll subscribe to Woolie and Pat's individual channels to keep up with them. It sucks to see friendships grow apart, and it sucks we won't see them do the RE2 Remake and DMC5 playthrough. I've been waiting for those.

I've known about them since 2011 when they were on Machinima and subscribed to them in mid 2012. I thank all of them: Matt, Pat, Woolie, and Liam (I admit that I barely cared for him at the time) for the 7 years of fun and entertainment. I will miss them. Best Friends and Max_Dood are my favorite channels. There are some other LPers too, so I still have some entertainment, but there will be a spot missing in my heart. Good luck to all 4 of them.

PS - I will never watch or subscribe to Game Grumps.

Yeah, this sucks. I've been watching their content since their stupid Kirby video on Machinema. I was literally on the ground floor of this and followed for a decade. Watching their videos was an hour of entertainment for me every day.

I don't know that I'll be interested in their solo content. I've watching some of their solo stuff and it's just not as entertaining when they don't have other people to bounce off of. Also, I hate twitch.

I'm not in as bad a place as the OP. I do still have close friends that I hang out with. While watching the super best friends did feel like hanging out with friends to me, it wasn't a replacement for real relationships.

I'll definitely miss their content, but maybe now I have an extra hour per day to focus on other things that will be more beneficial to me in the long run. Extra time to look for a new job, extra time to focus on writing. I've been thinking of starting a podcast, and this is time I can dedicate toward that. They cut themselves out of my life so now I don't have to cut out other things to make room for the other projects I want to work on.

At least I'll still have the castle super beast podcast to listen to at work.

I semi watched compilations of their best moments from their playthroughs at machinima. But I think they cut their contract with them or something?

I did not know about that. I thought they left Machinima around 2014 or so. This is news to me.

This is what I'm referring to. I rather just watch short compilations, than watch a long playthrough.

Fundamentally I don't feel particularly intertwined with any of the online people who's stuff I watch and enjoy. Certainly I like GG, but I don't feel connected to them. That said, I understand how you feel completely. If Arin and Danny weren't friends anymore, or if SGF stopped playing games, or the Official Podcast stopped casting, I would be unhappy about it. Its comforting to know that humans that you are aware of and know things about are continuing to exist in the manner you understand them whether you're watching them or not.

I kind of realized this about myself when Totalbiscuit died. Even though I didn't really watch regularly, I had respect for his opinions, and I enjoyed a lot of the work he and his group did. Every now and then it pops into my head that he doesn't exist anymore, and that I will never be able to go online and hear something new he said with respect to a topic I'm following. I don't particularly mourn him, its not like I was close to him or even spoke to him electronically or in person, but I am distinctly aware of his absence. There is a place on the internet where TB once was but is now not, and now in that spot there will always not be him.

I dunno, maybe part of the numbness you're feeling is the awareness of absence? There's some pretty interesting philosophical writing on this having to do with the bias of language.

Well fuck me, they were my go-to channel ever since their Dark Souls Machinima video. I mean, it has been 9 years, which is kinda crazy, but still.. this sucks. They brought the best combination of gaming knowledge/insight, humorous refences, and banter. I have been enjoying Pat's and Peach's streams in the last year, so that's something to fall back on atleast, but it'll be hard to fill that spot. Shit.

Woolie said him and Pat are still doing a Podcast called Castle Super Beast. So there is that.

From the language used and for the upcoming podcast, this seems to be a Pure Pat and Matt beef. I wouldn't rule out Woolie going on Pat's channel or Pat stopping in for an Lp on Woolie's, but as a duo? Don't know. This breakdown certainly messed with them. Emotionally and financialy. I'd be surprised if they joined up with something they don't own fully. This would put me off sharing a channel.

I don't have any favorite"social media personalities", I'm not intertwined in any of that.

Those kinds of channels where a bunch of people just sit around, talk and play video games just puzzle me, I see no appeal in them.

Most things I watch on YouTube are music videos, comedy or educational videos on certain subjects that I'm interested in, I don't do the whole YouTube personality thing.

Saw them frequently namedropped, never actually watched anything by them.
Sucks for the fans, moreso for them if indeed it cost their actual friendship.
Not that the internet is starved for bros with Let's Play channels.

Yeah, the castle super beast podcast is a silver lining. I loved listening to the super-best-friendcast at work on tuesdays, it's where I got a lot of my gaming news and new game recommends actually, so losing that would have been really tough.

I joked that since Matt and Pat are splitting up maybe they can share custody of Woolie, but yeah that's looking unlikely in terms of actual full time collaboration, though I'm sure they might show up on each other's twitch streams once in a while. Liam left a few years back and he shows up with them on Twitch sometimes.

I have been enjoying Matt's other youtube content, Pat's Twitch seems like the best of the three, and Woolie's new podcast is interesting, but I don't think I'll be enjoying those individually as much.

Same. The youtube celebrity thing appeals a lot to lonely people and kids, since they seek human interaction.
