I'm not sure whether this topic belongs in Gaming Discussion or Off-topic Discussion, so if a Mod thinks this belongs in the other feel free to move it or something.

If you've been surfing the internet in the early 2000's and were big into video games and anime, chances are you've seen or heard of Super Mario Bros Z [http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/supermariobrosz]. Mixing characters from Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog with a plot ripped straight out of Dragon Ball Z, it was one of the most popular game-related Flash series on the web. Unfortunately massive pressure from fans, life complications, and a loss of will to continue animating lead creator Mark Haynes to drop the series after 8 episodes. This hit fans hard as not only did their favorite series get cancelled but it ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger that left many wondering what will happen next to this very day.

Well there is now some good news and bad news. Good news: Mark is pondering the idea of getting back into the show. The bad news: he plans on rebooting the series, starting right back at the beginning and forever leaving what happens after the end of the original episode 8 a mystery. In a post made on his DeviantArt account [http://rukaisho.deviantart.com/art/Sprite-animation-practice-SMBZ-ep-1-remake-405291459], Mark states that if he does start working on SMBZ again, he would want to go back and redo the series from the start in order to fix some nagging issues he's had with it. He also posted a test animation of what the first scene from episode one would look like in this new reboot, both as practice to see if he could still do sprite animations well and to give fans an idea of what he plans to do if he actually decides to go through with it.

As an old fan of his work, I'm happy to hear he may be making a comeback. I do worry, however, about the reaction this will have from his fans. Mark was notorious back in the day for delaying the release of episodes or even outright threatening to cancel the series (before he actually cancelled it for realsies) because of how much the fans were pestering him. I would love for him to go through with this, but not if it means he has to go through that personal hell again. What do you all think?

Edit: Just in case there may be any confusion, this isn't 100% confirmation. Mr. Haynes is still debating whether or not he actually wants to do this, and there is a chance he may decide not to. By all means be excited, but try not to be disappointed or mad if or when he decides he can't do it.

Shit, I remember this. Must have watched it when I was like... 10. Maybe a bit older. Cool to see it coming back I guess but I doubt I'll really get back into it.

This was one of my favorite series to watch back in middle school. I loved it, and just recently rewatched the first couple of episodes for shits and giggles. I enjoyed them a ton, just as I did when I was 14.

I'd love to see the series make a return!

Hmmm, so this series is going to be rebooted?

This was one of the craziest things I have seen on Youtube.

Too bad he ended on a cliffhanger but I would like to see how he reboots it.

That would be awesome. I was enjoying that series and was disappointed when he decided to stop doing it. Would love to see what happens at that cliffhanger he left though.

Oh, i remember quite liking that show. Last i know is that the creator is mostly drawing mildly erotic Furry art.

... It uh... it is pretty good erotic Furry art though.

Wasn't really much of a cliffhanger. Shadow disappeared before the battle and the Mario Bros picked up some power ups they never got around to using, foreshadowing if I ever saw it.

The fact that I remember that from when it was released should be a good indication of my relative excitement. I do think that sprite animation is a bit outdated nowadays however, Flash creators have moved on since those early days methinks.

Well shit. I watched that ages ago and it was awesome. The episodes were short enough that I figure I won't be inconvenienced any by watching it again, so I probably will.

Well I would like to see SMBZ return... but I remember that there was a reason he actually cancelled the series. Wouldn't want that to happen again...

I hope he continues and not reboots it. As much as i love the new style in his preview, i've always wanted to know what happens. The intro to SMBZ hints at a few things we've yet to see, King War for example, plus i wanna know how the fight with Basilix goes. He mentioned that Basilix won't be in the reboot, which is sad, i liked him as an antagonist.

Cool!

I loved this series and I just saw the rebooted first scene. It looks awesome.

I hope that the creator does come back to the series, even if he chooses to reboot it, and I hope that someone, or something, is in charge of crowd control to keep those nagging fans in line and to be patient.

Wow, that takes me back. I'd love to see a remake. I remember watching those with such unabashed glee back when I was in school. Goodness. Those were the days. That sample didn't look too bad, either.

Oh... Oh, joy... I loved this series! This was one of the very first web animation shows I ever watched! And it was quite a killer web series!

While I can't find where he said it (it seems it was deleted some time ago, or I'm just stupid), Mark did come out and reveal what would happen in episode 9.

Because Luigi was wearing a Tanooki Suit, which lets him turn to stone at will, he manages to break free of the petrification and saves Mario. The two of them kick Basilix's ass and kill him, which frees Sonic and Yoshi from their petrification. The Koopalings show up and a battle ensues before Dr. Eggman makes his grand entrance, much to Sonic's obvious surprise. Doc also reveals Mecha Mario and a short fight scene between the heroes and Doc/Mecha Mario ensues. Doc and Mecha appear to be at an advantage and the episode ends on another cliffhanger.

Here's hoping he gets back in the game. That show was fantastic. Seriously, I can only imagine all the hours and effort he put into those videos.

I wouldn't mind him rebooting it if it means it gets better than it already is.
