A lot of people think that. Personally, I prefer Brawl. The game's often decried for making the gameplay slower and more floaty than Melee and changing up the air-dodge mechanic, but honestly I vastly prefer it that way. Melee was way too fast in retrospect. Good for competitive Smashers... annoying for the rest. Brawl I feel was a much more kinetic game. It had more oomph and weight to the motion, instead of being unrealistically fast and killing any feeling of momentum. Not to mention all the extra content, especially the stage builder. Yeah, it was really limited, but me and my brother made literally hundreds of stages with that thing.
I think a lot of people were expecting too much a Melee 2 instead of a Smash 3. It's why when I see stuff like Project M I think, "Oh come on, guys. Let it go. We've moved on."
