Oh jesus not one of these again. I don't understand why there are so many of these cases. Does the government truly think that parents can't take care of their kids themselves or at least let the kids decide what they want to buy/rent. Keeping kids from violence and sex just hides them from the real world then once they're out there by themselves they're scared shitless. I hope this whole thing is overruled.

Why? Why do these people feel the need to go out of their way to stop violent games? There are far worse books and movies.

If corporate political contributions are "free speech" but video games are subject to strict regulation, I'm going to want some justices' heads on platters.

(Not that video games have made me violent or anything...)

The main argument I suppose being that in a video game, you are the one who is by proxy committing the terrible acts, as opposed to merely watching/reading about them.

So let me get this straight: the supreme court is going to be overseeing a case that could ban the sale of violent video games to minors in California...but in that same state, you can legally purchase 120 Days of Sodom in appropriate stores.

...Did I miss something?

I now know what to post in this thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.228688-Not-this-shit-again-moments?page=1 Seriously, after a few losses, you think Arnie would just walk away already.

Arnie's not the problem so much as California state senator Leland Yee, who would clearly be much more at home if we deported him to China and gave him a time machine to stick him in the middle of the Cultural Revolution.

Can any american please tell me why I see republicans like the austrian oak mr schwarzenegger trying to outlaw violent videogames?
Outlaw the SALE OF "overly" violent video games, to minors. As in, instead of it simply being store policy to not sell M rated games to the youngin's, it would actually be a misdemeanor.

Do Books and Movies first please.

Obviously, the Rating System is not working so just ban them all! So we have to suffer for their mistakes? Bullshit.

With the sheer precedence of R rated movies and how those have been sold for years, I expect any lawyer with half a brain to point to that and go "so why haven't those been regulated?"

I don't get it, what's the problem? As long as they aren't trying to ban them for adults I don't see the issue, they just want to fine retailers who break the law and sell restricted games to minors. I'd kill for that in my country.

I hope the Schwarcneger will win selling a M rated game to a kid is as bad as selling cigaretes or alcohol or porn film.

But movies and books tend to try to make you sympathize with the one doing all the killing. Which is worse?

Curse you, ninja!

But honestly, why do we keep children at a 500 meter distance from anything R-rated? There are far worse things happening in the world today, and by trying to hide the truth we can only make things worse for them when they realize that the bad guys do win, death is forever, and that bad things happen to good people.

this whole argument is just cause games are not an accepted form of art. to quote daniel floyd and james portnow, "people don't look at a team of game designers and see a group of artists, they see toymakers who have gone too far, like a branch of Mattel gone rogue."
