Remember it? Ha! I've been making references to Overcharged throughout the entire set of RPs. In fact, I've hidden loads of references on this bleeding page to taunt you all! Go on! Find them! Find them! Mwahahaha!

"Y-y-yes s-sir." the shaky male voice answered from the other end. Pain grinned, turning to gaze at Temica nonchalantly as the radio and recording equipment morphed away. She was awake now, sitting limply on a slowly undulating lump of goo, arms at her sides, staring at the floor.

"Cheer up, love." he said in a mockingly loving tone, gliding over to her and lifting her chin with one hand. There was no terror or fear in her eyes now. A dull, aching sadness now permeated those nearly dead globes. No spark touched them, not even one of panic or denial. She didn't even flinch anymore, not even with Pain's winding tentacles crawling their wicked way all across her bare flesh. Nobody else in the world, at least not anyone alive, could comprehend what she had been through. She had long since accepted her fate, whether she had wanted to or not. Utterly broken.

"Good girl." he said quietly and with an evil grin, then turned away, preparing to leave. However, something caused him to pause; a footstep. High above, in the sewer pipes, a booted foot had stepped on him. More than one. By god, there were dozens of them, slinking their way through the tunnels and pipes all around his lair. Pain excitedly brought up a screen, which automatically tuned to his cameras.

A huge, feral smile spread across his ugly head, as the monitor revealed dozens of cops and soldiers worming through the muck and water, getting into various positions. They apparently thought he was actually in one of the tunnels. Close, but no cigar.

"Belay that order." he snarled playfully into the radio as it materialized in his hand. "Hover around for a bit, enjoy the scenery. I'll send you a signal when I'm ready."

"Y-yes sir, of c-course." the same male voice from before answered.

"Say, love, do daddy a favor and go down to your room, will you? I've got some errands to run." he said, as the screen and radio disappeared.

"Yes." Temica answered in a monotone, getting up and walking away. The black wall opened before her, and she descended into some unknown hole in the earth.

"Good girl." Pain muttered, as soon as she had gone. With that, the entire lair of goo, covering about half a square mile's worth of sewer pipes, concrete foundations, rock, and dirt, was suddenly drawn into himself, leaving a gigantic empty space in the underground system.

There were scattered yells and shouts in the darkness, from panicked men who had either just fallen when everything collapsed under them, or had almost. Cop's flashlights swept back and forth near the edges, where sewer pipes abruptly ended, as well as shouts from the Company soldiers to turn them off.

Pain remained silent in the blackness, standing at the bottom of his massive mole hole. A few scattered rocks and clumps of dirt fell from far above. Slowly, his goo reached out, climbing the walls and slinking through the dirt.

"I think I may have visual on the target." a voice said from somewhere nearby. One of the Company troops with night vision. Pain smiled in the dark, sending a tentacle in his direction.

"One moment... yes, confirmed visual on tar-" the soldier's voice was cut off in a spurt of blood, a soft gurgling sound penetrating the silence as he collapsed. Then all was chaos, as the cops shot wildly and then ran for their lives, and the Company soldiers bravely stood their ground, filling the radio waves with frantic, blood-chilling chatter just before they died.

------------

The trio of humvees raced through the streets, the drivers desperately pushing to save their comrades. The radios had gone silent twenty seconds ago. They should have been to the entrance zone by now, but an entire half a block had just suddenly... dropped, right in front of them, as if the ground beneath it went missing. Now they neared the entrance zone. Just around the corner.

The lead vehicle was the first to go, a gigantic, black spike suddenly erupting from the ground beneath it, pushing into the sky. The spike was swiftly followed by a massive, bulging head and torso, towering nearly thirty feet into the air. The arm that impaled the unfortunate humvee suddenly undulated and bulged in a violent, erratic fashion, sending the heavy hunk of steel and it's inhabitants sailing over the rooftops.

The second one ran strait into Pain, the driver unable to stop in time, but instead of ramming into him, it passed through, skidding down the road behind him. A massive fist, formed into a solid block of hyper-condensed material, slammed down on the third humvee as it skidded to a halt, turning it into a pancake of steel and blood.

Laughing, The Beast then turned around to face the remaining humvee. Two gigantic walls of solid blackness emerged on either side of the street, then rushed inwards to crush the vehicle and all it's shitty little Company inhabitants.

As those who were part of Surge know, Pain is easily capable of all that, and also more than capable of killing Reggie and Garth if he wants to[sup]1[/sup]. But I respect other's opinions, so if there's anything you're opposed to up there in mah post, say so.

[sup]1 And he's not the only one ;)[/sup]

Mike was... astounded would be the easiest way to put it. Never before had he seen darkness do that kind of damage, or any damage at all. He had stumbled upon Pain's slaughter fest while looking for a suitable place to spend the night. The agony and terror those men must have felt was nothing Mike had ever achieved, he wanted to learn more about this being that wrought destruction so easily.

He walked out from the alley he was in, clapping it was all he could think to do to get the beasts attention.

I figured I might as well have Mike and Pain meet, screw being a good guy games always make you be the good guy even if your chaotic evil you still have to kill the supreme evil boss guy in the end. sidetracking aside I think they're going to be great friends, onesided as it may be

Good thing I spotted a loophole you left. And oh I'm not phased. I'm sure that they could kill you too though.
"Sir, you were right for us to hang back" said the driver of Reggie and Garth's humvee. They watched as 3 others from the convoy were destroyed. That left them and the fifth which wizzed around them. It came to a screeching stop as the soldiers exited the vechicle and opened fire on the black goo of pain.

Reggie stepped out of their vehicle.
"Sir, wh-what are you doing?" Asked the driver, concerned.
"Never said sheep to do a wolf's job." He said calmly before closing the door.
Garth went to open his but Reggie's voice appeared in his head.

Stay my friend, this is personal

Garth stayed his hand.

Reggie stepped into the middle of the street, guns of the soldiers still blazing around him.

"Pain!" His voice boomed much louder then any human's should. He got the beast's attention. Pain grinned wickedly as he spotted Reggie stood in the middle of the road.

Regie then charged at Pain. He was faster then he should be. Spikes and tentacles of goo shot at him as he ran but each one vapourised before getting close to him. A look of concern appeared across Pain's face as Reggie was now in the range he wanted to be. He was a meer 10 metres from Pain. The goo that adoned pain's upper body and head was blasted away by Reggie.

"Who are you?" He said softly.

He had stopped and began staring into the dark green eyes of a seemingly normal man. He was pale skinned, slimly built with messy brown hair. The blast area on him began to re-seal with goo. A picture of sorrow was painted across the man's face.

"Kill me" He whispered before the goo re-engulfed him.

Pain, fully re-formed, then screamed in rage. He brought one of his massive hands down at Reggie who leapt into the air and out of the way. Reggie landed on a parked car nearby. He rolled over it and hid behind it.

Damien reached down and checked his phone as it started to ring. His eyes widened as he checked out the screen. "Hey, Kris... you know how I can be really paranoid occasionally? Well, when I first moved to Urbis, I took a bunch of phones heading for recycling. and when i mean a bunch, i mean over 500. anyway, I rewired them so that the video camera worked again, and that they all linked to this one phone. no-one can home in on my location though, since the code is spread through every single phone, including mine. That would make a tap sorta redundant. Anyway, one of my camera-phones picked up this." He turned the phone to Kris, showing a huge amount of blood and dead bodies. "Three guesses to figure out who did this."

No complaints, except that the body of Ryan still acts like Pain, even if the goo is removed. He wouldn't have been sad or asked anyone to kill him, even if the goo got blasted away. In fact, he wouldn't ask anyone to kill him even if he were to be Ryan again, but that will be explained later.

[sup]Also, determining what Pain / Ryan says is considered character control. It would have been better to simply state that Reggie blasted the goo away, and then let me determine what he saw / heard. Just a friendly heads up ;)[/sup]

"Like what you see?" the body said gleefully, taking a swing at Reggie as he jumped away. The blackness reformed around him, bulging and rippling as fake veins pulsed over seemingly immense muscles.

Pain grinned, tentacles of goo shooting out in random directions and killing soldiers as he continued to rise up out of the ground, growing with each passing second. Bullets and other various projectiles continued to slam into him, but to no avail. There was an order to arm grenades, but where the blast should have ripped him apart, the goo just hardened, resisting the blows completely.

"I underestimated you, Reggie. Who'd have thought you'd team up with The Man." Pain's deep, guttural voice boomed off the buildings around them. As he said this, each Company soldier received his own special little gift, then exploded in a burst of blood. The humvee behind him was latched on to by several huge arms, and lifted into the air.

"And I see you've brought another one of your little shits with you." he muttered, as he felt one of the arms sliced off by an incredibly sharp, durable edge. Turning slightly, he leered at the metal man for a moment. Then the humvee turned to goo, wrapping around him, and before he could cut through it, had compressed and then let the pressure loose, sending the bearded inmate rocketing in a brilliant arch over the adjacent building and out of sight.

"You do know that you're being played, right?" he said, as the car Reggie was hiding behind was suddenly turned to goo and sucked into the earth. "The Company, and this entire city, have no love for supers. As soon as they realize you can't help them capture me, they'll turn on you. It's a ploy. But at least you got a nice suit." The ground in a wide circle beneath the telekinetic man dropped away, replaced by the dark, gelatinous blackness. It reached upwards and wrapped around his body and limbs, hardening and condensing, but most importantly, getting heavier. Dragging him down.

"In fact, they're probably already on their way to get you now." Pain said with a leer and a smack of his lips, sending dark droplets of fluid spraying across Reggie's face. He leaned forward, licking the air in a sickly fashion, then stopped, and turned to look towards a nearby alley. A pale, rather crazy looking man stood there, in a blue track suit, clapping his hands happily. His disheveled brown hair looked like it had been dipped in hair gel and then sifted through several blenders. Not to mention it was filled with a week's worth of grease.

"Hold that thought, pumpkin." Pain said nonchalantly over his shoulder, holding a finger up to Reggie in the manner a parent might do to their child. Then he moved slowly towards the newcomer, a bemused smile touching his ugly head as he leaned closer, looming over the crazy clapping man. Thin, black tendrils rose from the ground and drifted around, as if examining the effects this newfound creature had on the environment.

"My my. You're a very special piece of work, aren't you?"

"OH you do talk, that makes things much easier." Mike shouted up to Pain, he had stopped clapping. "It seems like your having so much fun, you're even playing my favorite game. Though you are much better at it then I am."

He look over at Reggie, who still held his air of confidence even while entombed in Pain's grip. "It doesn't look like he's going to start screaming any time soon, it gets boring when they take to long to give in."

Was going by the info you gave us on Ryan. Sorreh :D
"Ha, capture you?" The goo around Reggie was blasted away as he landed on the ground. "I'm only with them for one reason, to protect this city. I'm only capturing the dangerous ones of our kind, the sane ones live free. People like you." He withdrew a pistol from a shoulder holster. "You die!" He fired two rounds into the goo that was pain's head but seemed to have only the effect of annoying the creature. It staggered back and roared at Reggie as he plunged more rounds into him.
"RPG!" Came a shout from one of the soldiers. Reggie threw himself and Mike behind a dumpster as the rocket made contact with the back of pain. The explosion rocked the alleyway. As the dust settled, Reggie stood up, wiping his suit clean.
"And it's a lovely suit" He said. He glanced around for Pain. He was gone.
"Until I find you again then?" He said quietly.
Mike came out form behind the dumpster coughing. Reggie turned to him, his pistol aimed at him.
"Who are you? Who are you with?" He said. He would gauge the man's answers, if he didnt like what he heard, then he'd delve into his mind.

I wasn't finished talking to Pain, don't just go and have other players characters go and disappear this isn't AA. Also I wouldn't risk trying a mental assault on Mike there's no telling what it would do to you, it's pretty fucked up in there.

One of the guards chuckled to himself as he stared down at the broken body of Cecia, wearing a grin that could be called psychopathic.

"Good going guys!" He shouted gleefully, slinging is rifle over his back. He walked up the what he assumed was a lifeless corspe and delivered a powerful kick to her chest, opening the massive wound even further.

"I must say, we took the ***** down alot easier than I thought we would have. I mean, she left a blood trail a mile long from the containment room to here, and all it took was a few hundred rounds to send her to hell!" He chuckled. "Alright, let's get the doctors and head out, I'm sure there are plenty of wounded lying around because of her." With those words the soldiers left the room, not even searching for anyone who was still alive.

As the door shut behind them the corpse made a gurgling noise, though they were already beyond hearing distance. The skin on Cecia's body began to boil and shift, slowly melding back together, bones came together with snaps and crunches, and organs started to reform inside of her. It was a roughly ten minutes before the girl managed to move.

"Ahhh..." She groaned, placing one hand over her side as she started to stand up. She coughed up blood as she tried to remain on her feet, barely able to keep her self standing due to a combination of the pain and the still healing muscles in her leg. She took a look back at the walls in the room, covered in crimson fluid that belonged to her and those she had slaughtered unknowingly. She didn't take any time to mourn however, as there was no doubt in her mind that if she waited to long she would get cut down by another wave of machine gun rounds. Her eyes settled on a ventilation duct roughly ten feet of the ground.

Why not? I apparently can't be killed by bullets, I don't think falling into a fanblade or being burned is going to be any worse.
Hmm...I've noticed that my writing style changes constantly.

Anyway, I'll conclude my multi-part intro whenever I want!
[sup]seeing as you guys are busy kicking the snot out of each other...[/sup]
[sup][sup][sup]That and I'm really fucking lazy...[/sup][/sup][/sup]

Side-note: In case your wondering why DM sorta just left Cecia on her own without any of it's awesome powers, well...you're going to have to wait and see. :D

Yeaaa... Zeppy, buddy, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to call foul. It seems that you haven't been following one of RP Combat's most important rules; the rule of action and reaction. This rule basically states that Poster #1 will post the action that his character attempts to perform, such as crushing Poster #2's character, and then Poster #2 will determine what happens. You never state the other character's reaction to an action, such as "he staggered back and roared" or "he disappeared" or "he whispered 'kill me'".

You may or may not have noticed, but in each of my posts thus far, Pain has clearly caused massive amounts of destruction and major plot-changingness, because he's an overpowered Surge Veteran, but I haven't once controlled the reaction any of the other's characters have had to his actions.

I'm hesitant to recommend this, because last time I did the person simply blew me off and got angry (then continued to post badly), but I would recommend this very helpful guide on posting habits. I know it's for beginners, but it has some very valuable nuggets, including the one about Combat Reactions, that you seem to have just not found yet. You're a good writer, it's just this one issue regarding combat that has set things awry. Hope you don't take this friendly advice the wrong way.

I'll formulate a reply soon, but just know that a few things may change, specifically Pain's reaction to things.

;)

Looking up, Nathan was thankful to see a manhole cover above him. He honestly didn't give a fuck about Damien, Kris or the whole secret past thing that was going on.

He just wanted to get out.

Climbing up the sewer ladder, he pushed the manhole over off and made his into the deserted streets. Looked like most of the people had vacated the area due to the military presence.

"Ok guys, the coast is clear. Lets get out of here"

He called down

"Funny, I like it when they prolong their own suffering. Death isn't that much fun."

There was a disturbance, as Reggie broke out of Pain's stranglehold. The Beast turned slightly, just as two rounds hit the side of his head, causing ripples that spread outwards across it. Raindrops in an ocean.

"I'm only with them for one reason, to protect this city. I'm only capturing the dangerous ones of our kind, the sane ones live free."

"Heh. Sane. The word has no meaning." The Monster grinned, advancing slowly as the tiny super plugged more and more lead into him. It was perplexing, that Reggie chose to use a weak, man-made weapon instead of his powers. Perhaps the man wasn't so clever after all. "And no, you aren't capturing them. You're failing, miserably. The Company will not be pleased."

"RPG!"

A thunderous noise from the direction of the soldiers, and Pain turned towards them, tongue lolling out in greedy anticipation. The weapon cut a wicked path through the air, smacking into his unmissable hulk straight on, the entire area erupting in flame. The pavement beneath cracked and simmered, the ground shook. Pain, however, stood still, unmoved. The blackness that was his body condensed, hardening and solidifying, the blast wave striking it vainly like water on rock.

The smoke cleared, and there stood Pain, skin smoking, surrounded by scorched, cracked pavement, tongue whipping about in the air as he faced the horrified soldiers.

"Never send sheep to do a wolf's job."

There was a pause, penetrated only by a distant sound of crackling concrete, and then the ground beneath the remaining soldiers erupted in a gigantic black ball of hooks, spikes, spears, and scissors. Skin and innards painted wild, exotic tapestries on the sides of the buildings, screaming men hung suspended on the tips of long, pointed razor fingers, mangled hunks of steel that were once vehicles barely contained the anguished wailing and gurgling of dying soldiers, their crimson suffering spilled out across the windows and seeping through the doors. The surface of the hideous globe ran red with blood.

The Beast turned it's leering gaze on Reggie, taking cover behind a dumpster. "Seventy-seven, and a quarter, to nothing. Your move." he grinned evilly. The pavement shifted slightly, as if the ground beneath it were unstable.

I'm going to wait for Zeppy to fix his post before I go on with the IC buisiness, if he still has Reggie point his gun at Mike it'd be rude to ignore him but if he shifts attention to Pain then I can ignore him and we can be bestest friends

I was going for the "Where did he go?" and then sudden re-appearance trick but nooooooooooooooooooooo lol. Ok, no problem.
Reggie seemed to be in between a rock and a hard place. On one side, Pain, a gelatinous killing machine. On the other, the unknown. He seemed to be a pain-supporter. Reggie didn't like the unknown in general. He knew this guy was a super but had no idea what his powers were. He wasn't sure if pain had any idea of the extent of his powers.

He withdrew a second pistol and aimed it at Pain. He then took a few steps back as the wall behind him fell to let him through.

"What do you want Pain? Is all your truly bred to do is kill and maim?" He asked. He heard a voice in his ear.
"
Code:
Apaches, ETA 1 minute
"
He couldn't help but smile at this.
"I'm guessing there's no way to talk this through. Last time we talked, you seemed to have only told the truth in part." Reggie said calmly, he was now about half way through the building that was next to them.
"I mean, if you wanna talk properly" He said as the whirl of helicopter propellers could be heard getting closer. "we have about 30 seconds" He smiled in glee at Pain, concern was evident on his face.

Fair enough, fair enough. A better way to make that happen, however, would be to PM the other person and talk about how you want the fight to go, then you both can come to an agreement, and character control will be averted.

;)

As the sound of chopper blades grew nearer, Pain remained where he was, standing in the street, watching Reggie slowly back away into the building. The fact that the man was pointing a gun at him was more than enough evidence that the Jamaican had already been snagged. The glee in his eyes, the wild tone of his voice, all signs that his decent had begun.

"Heh. You're going cold, Reggie. You need some time to rot. Better hope your new friends are as appreciative as I am."

And then he was gone, as the entire stretch of roadway he and the Clapping Man were standing on simply dropped into the earth. Even as the Apache helicopters whirred into view high above, the buildings on either side collapsed in on each other, virtually two entire city blocks instantaneously falling into the wide trough that had suddenly appeared in their midst. The two buildings met in a thunderous clash of steel, cement, and glass, crumbling under each other's weight and filling the gorge Pain had created.

As the dust and debris settled, the choppers hovered above, unsure of what had just happened.

------------

Somewhere deep beneath, under hundreds of tons of dirt, concrete, blood, and ruin, a dark, undulating space opened up and spread, allowing Pain to stand and shake himself like a dog. Next to him, the Clapping Man emerged from the protective black bubble that had been formed around him.

Pain turned towards the man, leaning down close to him in the dark. A flickering light bulb appeared and dangled between them, illuminating the man's face, and the long drops of goo that slowly descended from Pain's wicked mouth.

"I like you."

"You've clearly gone mad, but you're calmer than anyone I've ever met, even that little Company shit who claims to be 'sane'." Pain said, ignoring the man's question. "You have an air about you, one of confidence, and calmness. To the point of lunacy. You possess some sort of hidden card, one that you believe gives you protection and immunity. Thus you do not care about what happens around you or what other people think. You can simply play your card and take them out, surprising them with your sudden and horrible mortal strike. In your head, everyone is afraid of you." He leaned closer, an array of tentacles splaying around his head like a frill and winding through the air just inches from Mike's face.

"And yet, I have not seen you play your card. Even in the midst of chaos, destruction, and danger, you refrained from revealing your hidden advantage. What's your secret, Clapping Man?" The curved black walls seemed to bulge and shrink to some distant rhythm, like slowly pumping lungs. The muffled noises of rubble settling filtered in from somewhere above. Pain continued to stare at the man across the tiny gulf of light that barely separated them, his tongue winding through the air as if it had a mind of it's own.

Reggie jumped back as the ground and area infront of him collapsed.
"Fuck! Fuck you pain!" He yelled. He was furious. He threw his guns to the ground. "I'm sick of these games!"
He dropped to his knees and let out a roar of rage. The building around him exploded into millions of shards of brick, glass and metal that rained down all over the street and surrounding buildings.

He panted hard, his head pressed into the cold stone ground. He then felt a cold hand on his shoulder.
"Come on Reg. Let's go. There's nothing you can do now." Said Garth who had appeared beside him.
"I need time to think." Said Reggie calmly.
"We'll head back to the compound." As Garth said this, one of the armored cars pulled up along side them. Reggie hoisted himself up, picking up the two guns off the floor and returning them to their holsters. He was physically fine but mentally exhausted.
"Sir, where to? Are you still wanting to go to the company quarters outside the city?" Asked the soldier behind the wheel.
"No, I don't want to be dealing with another super right now." Said Reggie, crashing onto one of the seats.

These games, I can't stand them. I need supers, I need good supers. Garth can't be the only one. Why is being a good-guy in this city so hard?

Suddenly his mind picked up a nearby super, he threw himself round and looked down the street and saw a man exiting a manhole.

"Driver, wait here. Garth, come with me." He stepped out of the vehicle and walked briskly towards the man.

He stopped a few metres from him.

"Your a super aren't you?" He said, pointing at the man casually, taking a few steps forward as he did. Garth stood in Reggie's shadow as he looked at the man. He looked like he'd been through hell.
