Poor bastard.
I've heard the worst thing is becoming partially conscious during general anesthesia. U feel the pain but can't move or communicate in any way. The doctors just think you're asleep and keep going.
Very very very rare, but it gives people psychoses.

I once had a surgeon stitch up a broken artery inside an open wound (don't ask, long story) without any painkillers/anesthesia and I thought I was manly for not complaining about the pain...
(At least she asked first if she could just "fix it" as quickly as possible or if I insisted on some anesthesia)

His own fault if he still went ahead into surgery. He should have refused and found out what was up, because if a nurse told me to man up, I would have told her to fuck off.

Seriously, who the hell lets themselves go into surgery when not fully prepared.
Dude - we don't know the full circumstances. Also - "his own fault"? Can I have whatever you're smoking?
From the circumstances we've been told, he was told he wasn't receiving a the amount of medication he needed so he had to man up.

So yes, it's his own fault for not pulling the plug on the procedure right there while he was conscious and not in surgery. Only an idiot doesn't question that.

Also, I don't smoke. I realise its a phrase, but it makes you come off as a prick.

Damn, that would not be fun. As someone who has been in that level of deep pain I can say it sucks hard.

Authority Figures have a huge amount of influence on us. If a randomer did that of course you would be outraged and refuse to do it but a nurse is a different story.

Would you, personally, not check?

I mean, i'm going by personal belief here that if I was going into a surgery that is known to be painful, and i'm told to man up, in those exact words, I would at least check.

Hell, that's what my mum did, because they were going to operate on her back and the nurse wasn't going to give her as much medication as she told she was getting. She kicked up a fuss, the nurse was reassigned, my mum got the medicine. So maybe its just me, but I would, without a doubt, at least question my nurse.

Wow. Just...wow.

I think 4 months of jail time would be enough for that nurse to think about what she did.
add 8 more to that count and I'm inclined to agree. All I have to say is wtf..... (EDIT: I just noticed i thought the same thing, changed to add come variety.)

Get some jailtime, and a nice fine.

I feel bad for the gentleman and sadly this isnt the first case of this happening.

When I was eight, I had to have oral surgery. They didn't even give me any gas. They just started cutting. It was god awful.

Needless to say, I don't fear seeing the dentist for my check ups anymore.

It seems likely that the poor bastard was given his partial medication before being told he wouldn't get a full dose. He probably got enough of the stuff to make him a bit woozy and stupid - stupid enough to not question a nurse.

As to why they didn't stop... well, its likely they were half way done by the time his trashing got bad enough to worry them. I'm had a lot of needles put through my back, and they typically use local pain killers. He probably didn't feel much until they were already in his kidney. At that point, it would have been just as painful to pull out, so the call was made to just finish up.

Read the story again. It doesn't specify when she told him to man up. I'm going to assume it was before.

Assuming, I don't actually know of course.

Good grief. You know what, I'll "man up" (or "woman up" in my case) for improperly-anesthetised surgery if I'm, say, heroically injured in an action-packed yet humorous gun battle, and being sewn up. Otherwise, give me the effing painkillers.

She effectively subjected a man to torture because she had a drug habit. Toss her in jail.

You're saying it like it's completely his fault, which is nonsense. You don't even acknowledge the monumental amount of douchebaggery that that ***** had on display.

And sheesh, dude - calm down. I didn't mean to insult you.
Only an idiot would think it's completely his fault, but what is his fault is that he didn't check. I don't need to acknowledge her douchebaggery because it's, y'know, obvious.

And I am calm, I was just letting you know the phrase is prickish.

Suppose I'll go edit it so its more clear then

I wonder why he didn't stop the surgery. Perhaps it was urgent?

Wow... that nurse is a *****. So much for that oath they take or whatever.

I mean... I've had arms snapped out of place and then snapped back in, but that... Thats just insane. Even I wouldnt do that (and I've done some crazy shit).

Maybe I missed it, but why wouldnt thje doctors stop. I mean, yeah, sometimes the medication doesnt take, but couldnt you just reschedule?
Nurses don't take the Hippocratic Oath. Only doctors do.
