Never use the microphone unless using party chat or coordinating a team. The squeaky voices and massive amounts of swearing begins to grate after a while.

A couple times.
One of the most amusing being where the team we were against in Gears2 decided to just say anything they wanted before the match. (To sum up what they said, profanities and large egos).
We won the first round with 0 deaths on our side.
They continued the same thing as before the match started.

We eventually won, and when we did they didn't say a thing. I love when that happens.

Story time aside, i rarely hop in discussions like that in any way. I just giggle at what things people can come up with. Most of the time they are unoriginal, but hearing a 12 (well their voice sounds it) year old say some things just makes me giggle. Giggle like a school girl.

It's smack-talk, but because you can't punch the person who insults you in the face over the Internet (yet), I think it has a habit of really going overboard. Most of the people tossing slurs would never say those sorts of things face-to-face, but a combination of lowered inhibitions and adrenaline tends to reduce their IQs by a few dozen points.

If it's not Mickey Mouse and his friends, then it's overuse of the privilege known as swearing. If you use Xbox Live at all, you'll get cussed at.

Well, seeing that you were playing a game notorious for being full of 13 year old retards cussing because they think they're bad ass, Xbox Live does have a lot of immature people, i've been cussed at before, and i damn well defend myself. Best option is to find a group of nice, mature people to play with in a party or so. Haven't been sworn at at all on Call of Duty 5 because i play with mature and respectful people, which is a lot more fun than playing with a bunch of whiny, annoying, spoiled kids with too much time on their hands.

i played XBL got cussed out a lot.
psn eh once twice every couple of months.
(on both mainly because my voice was high)
on that point just because your voice is high shouldn't lower your chance of working as a team
i hate when people get mad at me cause my voice is high.
i don't yell or anything i only talk gameplay and am not annoying .

swearing because you lost is stupid.
But i think swearing because of people using glitches is okay.
because it just makes gameplay completely boring and annoying.

Swearing is an innate part of the XBL community. Especially when you're a girl and you've declined someone's invitation to suck their balls... >.> Mute button is a wonderful invention.
I don't tend to swear myself, I tend to say 'frack'... which is a form of cussing, but It's not MY fault Battlestar Gallactica is so awesome...

You wanna know what helps? set up a party and only hang out with your friends. I just invite my friends and we talk while playing our own seperate games. Just ignore him.

If you leave xbox because of it then you cant take a hit. Just ignore it and laugh at his stupidity and give him a bad review to warn future players.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I don't get swore (sworn?) at a lot in XBL.
I mostly don't talk at all though. Don't even have the mike on.

Not personally. I don't have XBL. >_>

But, I noticed that one of my friends started swearing a whole lot more after she got XBL. >_> She would hardly ever swear before and now she swears all over the place.

This is why I prefer computer games. >_> Much fewer prepubescent boys cussing up a storm.

As a sideline, I run a WOW guild and we have a rule that occasional swearing is ok, it happens, after all, but excessive swearing will get you silenced, and if ya don't rein it in some after a while we'll look into whether you're right for the guild.

Way I see it is we have young people playing, and while I don't feel any need to 'protect' them from a rude word, if their mum or dad happens to look in and see that they're getting told what they can go and do with a donkey corpse and a gallon of swarfega, then they might lose their ability to play.

Despite stereotypes , some of the younger players are really good and sensible and I don't want to lose em!

As for explosive swearing from unfair deaths in games, hell it happens, can't blame anyone for dropping a few F bombs.

Yeah... Ive gotten to see a few funny conversations across the halo matches, my favorite of which was not directed at me "I fuck your disabled sister" which seems more insulting to the person who said it.

Your playing an online game, anybody here who has played in ANY online game knows that 90% of the people there are a bunch of rude, non caring, offensive swearing whores, who have nothing better to do than to make your day as unplesant as possible. And yes on psn people are the same way.

Simple, 13 year olds don't have an income other than mummy and daddy's back pocket. M&D see 360 price versus PS3 price. M&D buy 360...

I've been cussed at yes, but usually by those who end up at the bottom of the score list, but it's nice just to be able to mute those players and cont. to humiliate them in the game.
