This is not exclusive to Xbox Live; anything that has online capabilities will have people like that.

I love the ignorant retards that populate XBL! It's like going to a zoo!
As is a trip over to the GameFaqs message boards. You keep the windows rolled up and move through quickly.

I don't actually think it's possible to play online without being cussed at. If you're good, someone will curse you blind for beating them - if you're bad, you'll be told how much you suck with relevantly added cuss words.

It's unfourtunate for XBL. I had a PS3 for a year before I got an Xbox and in that time I got cussed at by 1 person (ironically he apologised and is now on my friends list). In the 3 months of XBL, I lost count of the cussing. It really does make it a bad experience, especially if your paying for it.

By brother and his friends are weird =\

He goes on XBox live to play Halo and he randomly says things that shouldn't be said... Funny when they all either:
a) Shoot him
or
b) Turn off their XBox

I normally swear because of something that's happened to me or something I did, for example -

"Oh f*ck, I fell off the stupid f*cking ledge again!"
"I shoot like a ret*rd"

You get the idea.

I have been known to call team-killers all sorts of names but I think that's justifiable. I don't normally get sworn at but then I don't play Halo or Gears online.

as was said earlier, you cant go on any online platform without coming accross a dickwad who will swear at everyone because in his/her mind they are the best in the world at that game be it halo or otherwise. so when you beat them it pisses them off and rather than switch off and go do something else or take it like a (wo)man, they'd rather verbally express their didtaste of defeat on the player(s) who beat them.

ps. let me know if you want to hear about my personal experiences

Your playing an online game, anybody here who has played in ANY online game knows that 90% of the people there are a bunch of rude, non caring, offensive swearing whores, who have nothing better to do than to make your day as unplesant as possible. And yes on psn people are the same way.
I haven't seen any evidence of that on PSN. Well, not that "90%" are arseholes. 10% tops.

Xbox Live is home of the retard. On PSN, most of the swearing is of the "shit! I got shot!", as opposed to "Oh my fucking god you fucking fag! I'm going to fucking kill you fucking cocksucker cuntbag!"

Hell, most of the cunts on PSN are the ones with music playing over their headset, rather than 10 year olds shrieking obscenities.

I'm curious have you ever been cussed at on XBL. Because the longer I play online more and more swearing occurs. Just a couple of minutes ago someone on XBL told me to suck certain parts of his body and have intercourse with a donkey, after I had won a match of excecution on Gears of War.

Well mabey it's just me but I don't think that's entirely normal. Just wanted to hear your oppinions and possible experience about this subject.

Oh and to fire up the discussion I also wanted to mention that on PSN this kind of stuf rarely happens Wich is kinda weird because PSN is free, so you would think there are alot more nutjobs there.
It happens a lot. I was playing UNO on XBL and there was some girl on there cursing every other word. Why she felt the need to trash talk over a game of UNO I have no idea.

Naked guys! If they're cute, you get a nice show. If they're not cute, you can have fun as well; either comment about how incredibly small their penis is, or comment how it looks like they've got an STD.

Torettes is never fun.

On the PSN network having less immature users, perhaps it's because the PS3 isn't fan-boyed or as popular as the 360. Plus, it's the more expensive. Adults make the choice to go PS3 more than the 360. Speaking very generally.

As for being sworn at, absolutely. For anything and everything ranging from losing a match to being a girl. I usually leave the room and find another group if they get out-of-hand. The only thing we can do is report obsessive swearing, and after enough reports, MS will take a look into it.
I hate those types of gamers where they think gender matters. It's all skill not gender.

I can't really say anything about this, but yeah, XBL is infamous for being populated almost entirely by whiny sweary 13-and-younger kidz (note the spelling) whose balls have yet to drop.

PSN however doesn't suffer this because of what other people in this topic said - More expensive, and doesn't come with a mic in the package, online play is also completely free.

... Coincidence?

Swearing is an innate part of the XBL community. Especially when you're a girl and you've declined someone's invitation to suck their balls... >.> Mute button is a wonderful invention.
I don't tend to swear myself, I tend to say 'frack'... which is a form of cussing, but It's not MY fault Battlestar Gallactica is so awesome...
It's NOT your fault! I played an entire match of Gears 2 trying to organize my team using what I thought was a Saul Ty voice... "Fracking get it together" and other such inspirational phrases, but then some little kids with squeaky voices thought I hadn't learned how to swear correctly and tried to teach me. Also they called me an old man, so I guess the Colonel Ty thing was pretty spot-on?

Usually I don't even bother with the mic, but I leave the arguing, bitching voices on speaker. Girlfriend thinks they're hilarious.

So... your playing a game where the objective is bloody murder and your complaining about people swearing?
Thats a bit "double standards" isn't it?
a-"AHAHA ILL HACK THIS FINE GENTLEMAN TO PIECES AND EXPECT HIM TO BE PLEASED!"
b-"BASTARD!"
a-"oh no! I've never been exposed to this kind of thing before, whinge whinge moan moan"

Being insulted by anonymous assholes isn't a gameplay element though. They never mention it on the box anyway.
