Not really a big surprise, but might actually give this a chance sometime down the line.

Good stuff. Just got through with the free trial period of an Inquisitor. I'd like to keep playing, but it's not worth buying, let alone a sub fee.

Edit: Handy little chart for the two people who didn't see the news article http://www.swtor.com/free/features

Their priorities are hilarious.

Totally called it for the Fall! Honestly this is great news. There are a ton of people who just want to play it for the story.

They better not change anything for us subscribers though. Let those that want to play F2P go on and do so, but I'll gladly keep paying my 13?/Month if it means nothing changes with this and I can keep enjoying the game just as I have so far.

Otherwise, another good MMO swallowed by the "FREE" (Fucking massive irony airquotes) to Play-monster that just starts catering to people who do microtransactions. Also known as "Pay to win" players - see such things as World of Tanks and Lord of the Rings Online for details on microtransaction nightmares taking a huge chunk out of games with a brilliant base concept and structure.

Sure looks a hell of a lot like the model used for LoTRO to me. Which could be a good thing, of course. It's worked very well for that game.

Contemplated taking advantage of this, but my internet connection doesn't seem to like TOR at all.

Well, that happened earlier than I expected.
Still, good stuff, had some fun with the level 15 trial, getting a new computer that should be able to run it better soon too.

Edit: Wait, this fall?
Isn't that around when Guild Wars 2 is getting released?

Welp.

Saw this coming. It's a good game, but you simply can't copy WoW then try to directly compete against it. It's not possible to be a successful WoW clone on a subscription plan.

Actually... let me recant that "good game" part. It's an alright game. I'll play through 1 or 2 more class stories now that it's free. The stories are quite good considering it's an MMO (not Mass Effect good, but decent).

I find it pretty funny that they're limiting the worst parts of the game for free players, like Operations and level-cap Warzones, but allowing nearly full access to the BEST parts of the game, the leveling and class stories. Level 50 Warzones right now are so INSANELY gear-based that anyone who started playing after release is basically helpless. It's hilarious. Low-level warzones are a lot of fun though.

No joke I bought this game two hours ago and found half an hour ago I just waisted £30, fortunately I have not bought a subscription but I am seriously pissed off.

Well ops are very fun and very challenging if done with people you know or with your guild + voice comms. They do it because of old PVE players like me would have to subscribe to a game to get OPS. Basically all my guild gonna stay subscribed because we always run OPS 3 times a week and other times we just lvling alts. Nothing beats a good EC hard mode (or others nightmare) raid night.

Too little too late. By the time the FTP is out, I will be playing other games to care about playing TOR.
Well I still gonnna zip my mouth about it to my mate who bought the game althought he's too busy with work to play games at the moment.

this is awesome. I knew it would happen although I didn't expect it to happen quite so soon. I'll be playing this for sure. and with guild wars 2 around the corner, it seems we'll be getting a nice selection of f2p mmos this year.

I thought this game would last at least a year before going free to play. Still, I suppose it's better to make the switch while people still have interest in the game rather than waiting until nobody cared anymore (like Age of Conan).

This does not change the fact that I still have no interest in the game whatsoever.

If I'm reading it correctly, I'll get to basically play KOTOR3 for free. I do not see a problem with that...

I'm fine with this. The lower level cap does annoy me, but I'll end up playing the story missions and then never touching it again anyways. By that time I'll probably have picked up Guild Wars 2, Borderlands 2 or something equally huge and time-consuming.
