Yeah, I personally dislike a lot of TV chefs, for the simple reason that I don't think being able to make cheese on toast gives you the right to bully and abuse everyone who works for you. From what I've seen in my career, most places, calling someone an idiot nowadays is enough to get you pulled up for harrassment.
One of my favourite clips ever!

Apart from that tho, personally I'd have gone to the producer and said 'either we get some steak in here, or I'm going on a wildlife rampage to eat, enjoy the lawsuits.'
It's down to the TV company what makes the edit, even most 'live' stuff has a delay, because while if you went on a chat show and gutted the host with a machete, it'd be edgy TV, if you let slip something racist or sexist while you did it, there'd be angry mobs with pitchforks and torches outside the wrong TV station (because mobs are fucking idiots squared).
You're either killing animals for entertainment, which they've been doing with spiders, locusts, worms, etc for ages, but rats just about sneak into the 'furry' category, or you're not. For me, killing prey to eat, when you're trained to prepare and cook meat, isn't a problem, eating live animals, even insects is worse than that because it's purely for the entertainment factor.
