Yeah i agree, i get it escapist needs ads to survive, but some of the taboola ads are just unpleasant to look at. Especially that one of the persons knee with weird stuff apparently growing on it and no i'm not going to click on it to find out what it is because then they would win.
I was brave enough to click on that image. They're frozen peas. She was kneeling on frozen peas for a fetish site. Some people get their kicks from that.

You're gonna have to describe these ads to me.

Alongside such delightful articles like '21 Inanimate Objects Miley Cyrus Has Violated' all from this page:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128308-Mighty-No-9s-First-In-Game-Footage

Hence why I always visit the forum version of article pages.
The first one is just some person who's kneeled down on frozen peas...

I don't WANT to know what the second one is
A bot fly in a cat, at least that's what the article the image is supposed to link to.

I'll never look at frozen peas the same way again...

Same, now I'll never be able to look at frozen peas again without getting a little aroused.

The gaikai ads of roughly a year back were probably the worst ever. They loaded an empty java applet, forcing your browser to stop and load the java plugin whenever one appeared. I changed my settings on Opera to only run plugins on demand because of that. Other browsers couldn't do that though, so later I just uninstalled java entirely.

I also decided never, ever to do business with gaikai.

If you have Ghostery, it can remove the Taboola junk without removing ads. All you gotta do is...uncheck "advertising" in Ghostery's options, since Taboola is under the Widget category. It also gets rid of Facebook comment sections. :p

Alternatively, the taboola junk is sourced from cdn.taboolasyndication.com. Do with that what you will.

On the other hand, at least the Taboola crap isn't animated. At least not that I've seen.

Well that makes that slightly less disgusting but it will be a while before I can eat frozen peas again.

And the list of what people can get their kicks off continues to leave me slightly puzzled

Animated is easy, you just have flash only run if you allow it to. You have to click on videos to start them up but that is a small price to pay for non-intrusive advertising.

(note: I'm currenty using Chrome)

Oh, this I know. I have little Flash icons everywhere. Any time I try a new browser, I look for a setting to play Flash only on demand. Lack of such a setting or add-on to accomplish the same is pretty much a deal-breaker.

Well, at least it isn't as bad as Gaia Online. At least at the Escapist doesn't really have a say in the ads. On Gaia, pretty much everything cost money, the ads frequently aren't appropriate for the age demographic and break the site's own ToS, and to top it all off, the people that run the site recently released a survey to see what they should do for their adults only site they're working on(keep in mind, a lot of the Gaia's userbase is under 18), which featured stolen art and pictures of different body types with VERY insulting labels. And the survey violated their own ToS.

dear lord people please STOP REMINDING ME of the bloat fly ad that is one of the ones that made me do this thread, others where the incredible ugly guy and one that looked like an accident.

the point of this thread was to see if someone else find those ads discusting (pleasently surprise that a lot of people did, and to rise the escapist staff awareness about this, since it been counter productive (at least in my case, i have stopped clicking in a lot of news thanks to this shitty ads), and perhaps if they work like google ads they can say which ones they want on their site
