The bottoms of shoes generally come into contact with less that clean surfaces on a regular basis. With that in mind, I generally take my shoes off when indoors as it keeps my carpet from getting filthy faster.

Hm.. I find it weird when I go to someone's house and they tell you not to bother taking your shoes off. OOH! Or if they have a separate pair that they wear indoors. What the hell? Free yourself, man! Generally, you take your shoes off indoors - the Simpsons, Griffins and Smiths need to realize this. Marge, Lois and Francine would probably have to vacuum a lot less.
Yeah. A lot of people who have heavily carpeted floors in the U.S. don't like shoes inside. I don't know where the OP is getting this idea. What I always considered strange about Japanese custom was the "indoor shoes" they have.DeadSp8s said:american here. shoes come off in the house. stereotyping ITT.
Hello fellow Swede!Ludlov said:So 'ive seen many shows like Family Guy, American Dad and the Simpons wher they make fun of the japanese for always taking their shoes off indoors. Well, i'm swedish and we also take off our shoes so i have to ask: Why is this so weird to you americans? When you walk around outside your shoes get dirty so why not take them off before you go inside instead of dragging all that filth inside? Do you just enjoy cleaning the house or what?
