Immediately Ban the Deadly Videogame Known as "SkyRim" for The Safety of America's Youths.
Whereas videogaming has proven to cause social, ethical and health problems in people of all ages,

Whereas sexual perversion and homosexuality are threatening to destroy the Christian foundations on which this nation was built,

Whereas a new video game has just been created that far exceeds any others in the psychological and spiritual damage it does to teens,
I find it oddly pleasing that these people now believe that video games are just as damaging to their belief system as homosexuality and porn.

Grab that controller and fight the good fight, my friends.

"3) To prosecute the players of "SkyRim" to the fullest extent of the law."

So.....fullest extent would be not at all.

It's things like this that make me lol my ass off and continue to believe that religion is stupid.

I hope no one actually believes this petition or that website are actually serious. christwire.com is a particularly obnoxious satirical site. Some of the shit on there is pretty funny, actually.

I'm still pissed the white house had my real name and address without me actually entering it into the profile. I really wanted to sign the petition as Talos. Havn't seen him sign it yet.

I hope this is just the guys from christwire trolling. If someone actually made this is all seriousness, then I'm really worried for the state of America.

Why can't anyone ever recognize something as satire anymore?
It kinda gets hard to tell sometimes as there really are people out there who are serious about this kind of thing. Like Westboro Baptist church. Pretty sure they're serious a lot of the time, despite how absurdly stupid the things they do are.
Sad but so true...

So...where were these people when Duke Nukem came out? I found one article [http://christwire.org/2011/03/duke-nukem-forever-feminists-upset-over-slap-a-woman-mode/] those Christwire people did on it, but they never called for a ban. They must be taking the PETA approach to seeking attention, and at this point I think it's safe to say they are going to succeed.

Successful troll is successful. Honestly is this for real? I mean doesn't the government have some sort of moderator or something for these things?
I love some of the names too. Dark B from Tamriel, Alabama is totally legit though :D

Wait, there are people in this thread who don't immediately recognize this petition as trolling/satire/whatever-we-kids-are-calling-it-these-days?

Well that settles it. The Chrome extension "Subtitles for the Irony Impaired" goes online tomorrow.

1) To enact an immediate ban on the videogame known as "SkyRim" produced by Blizzard Entertainment.

2) To seize and destroy all copies already in public hands and erase its presence on the internet.

3) To prosecute the players of "SkyRim" to the fullest extent of the law.

4) To create a national database of videogame avatars and "screen names" so that teenagers can be better monitored.

That is so obviously trolling that I can't breathe I'm laughing so hard.

This is poor satire, the people at christwire are very lazy hacks. They don't even try to write for laughs there only writing for attention.

I understand there original point for making christwire in the first place but its just so badly done it's pointless to continue because your only making yourselves look bad.

Hehehe..silly people. Have they not played Saints Row the Third yet? Because that's more fun in destroying your homophobic, xenophobic, racist traditional views.

Whereas you can beat people senseless with a giant purple dildo.

Whereas you can be awarded points for eviscerating someone's genitals.

Whereas you can commit moral, ethical, and traditional crimes while dressed in the most perverse of attire.

Whereas you can be awarded money, respect, honor, and custom clothing, cars, and domiciles for prostituting yourself out.

Whereas you can learn how to properly use the word whereas.

Trololol away!

The fight against videogames is starting to sound a bit pompous now.

There are worse things tan videogames out there in the world and there are much worse than Skyrim out there.

Just ask that old hobo outside that makes fresh lemonade from his "crotch pocket" every few hours.
I agree. I especially don't like the way they brought in religion - seems like an emotional appeal that shoots down any case for debate.

OT: I guess gamers will always get the bad rap. Than again, nothing new - making big fuss on the media, rehashing old pseudo-science and attempting to micro manage the masses.

Step 1) Make ridiculous petition that anyone with even a passing interest in Skyrim can see to be woefully inaccurate
Step 2) Subtly link it to gaming news sites
Step 3) Watch as gamers on the internet go crazy
Step 4) Laugh from the comfort of your computer chair, safe in the knowledge that your nerdbaiting is best.

Honestly? I wouldn't be surprised if a gaming news site did this themselves to drum up traffic.
Exactly. This is /obviously/ a stealth parody. Poe's law really only holds if you're not only not a member of the group that gets those kind of parodies leveled at them (which, with religion, extends to the religious in general; if you understand the reasoning, you can kind of tell when a fundamentalist rant is being written by someone who sincerely believes it, and when it's being written by someone who is out to make fun of people like that), but you're a member of the group that the genuine form of the rants usually attack, and furthermore one who wants to laugh at how crazy the other group is. The mistakes in this are too specific -- I mean, think about it; why would a game hater mistake Bethesda for Blizzard? If they're boycotting a Bethesda game, it would make sense for them to find out who made it. It would /not/ make sense for them to actually know that there is a game company named Blizzard. That shows a knowledge of the industry that is deeper than the rest of the rant could possibly support.

That said, I don't think a game magazine did it; it's much more likely that some gamer found this website, and did it for a joke. Considering the screen names of the undersigned, I'd say it's even more likely.
