Well thats the very very very very very very extreme outcome, but tbh if you're still spending the majority of your time on games at the age of 40 you're probably not cut out for real life.DividedUnity said:I dont get how people cant put this ahead of their actual life. WoW (and other mmorpgs) are mostly a time (and money) consuming pasttime for most people. But for a select few people it is a stand in for stuff they dont get in real life. A certain kind of attention, the feeling of being important, a relationship, something they can excel in...or something else. If the game becomes a substitute for the real-life equivalent of something like this you will prioritize the game based on that.DividedUnity said:I dont get how people cant put this ahead of tehir actual life. You might not be cut out for a certain KIND of real life...but who says there is only one correct way to live?CLEVERSLEAZOID said:Well thats the very very very very very very extreme outcome, but tbh if you're still spending the majority of your time on games at the age of 40 you're probably not cut out for real life.DividedUnity said:I dont get how people cant put this ahead of their actual life. Saying that though, I'm a manager for a retail supermarket, I use some of my paid holiday if there is a certain game coming out I've been looking forward to, I'm in a healthy relationship and I still find plenty of time to game during the week/weekend after my shifts, racking up plenty of gametime. As long as there is a balance, I see no problem with using holiday for game releases. Skipping work entirely is a no-no though.
You could use some of your holidays...18game18 said:Lately I have been hearing my co-workers talk about skipping school and work when the new world of Warcraft expansion comes out, they also mentioned that this is very common among World of Warcraft players.
Does any one here ever skip school or work for World of Warcraft.
This is so true, me and my cousin went to University same time last year, World of Warcraft has destroyed his life, He went to an old grammer school with a 99% pass rate, Mine had a 25% pass rate, He went to university on a foundation course and was in his room all the time, eventually he stopped going, Now he has dropped out and is back at home without a job.Audio said:Guy in my Uni course doesnt leave his room. He is failing first year as i type... WoW dominates his life.
(the only way you can fail first year is to not turn up. He could hand in unfinish crap and still get through.)
Most of the kids here allready are getting crazy good grades and/or allready excel at their jobs. I doubt a videogame could destroy them.DividedUnity said:I dont get how people cant put this ahead of tehir actual life. I know there is alot more that people do that is very stupid and ruin their life like take heroine or other drugs like that. The fact is that there is no physical addiction which is the part that is probably the scariest. I know that they are just trying to substitute things they should be getting in real life but at the point were a virtual world becomes more important than the real on surely they would have some thought lingering in their head that this isnt a good way to live your life.tzimize said:WoW (and other mmorpgs) are mostly a time (and money) consuming pasttime for most people. For some people that can mean skipping or even quitting school/work, and I find it quite easy to understand (yes I have played wow extensively, but do not play anymore). It is not smart...but no one has ever accused humanity of being overly smart I guess...
Good grades at a point in your life can easily be rendered useless if you do not study and instead opt to MMOs in every spare moment of every day. Video games can cause people to go to extremes which you can see even from the articles on this site such as the counter strike cheat stabbed in the head or the kid who murdered his father with a hammer for taking away his keyboardTdc2182 said:Most of the kids here allready are getting crazy good grades and/or allready excel at their jobs. As for me, well... I'm allready failing bad enough as it is. Go Community College.
or how about that story on the news about that kid who was about to get the #1 gamerscore on a FPS game(they didnt say wich one) and when the parents grounded him for failing school he took his console and ran away.DividedUnity said:Good grades at a point in your life can easily be rendered useless if you do not study and instead opt to MMOs in every spare moment of every day.
