Oh I agree with you completely chap, I personally don't want children, my partner does one day, but I'll hold out for as long as I can haha. I'm just saying that if you are still living with your parents at the age of 40 because you've lost your job due to video games, you aren't really cut out for the real world.tzimize said:You might not be cut out for a certain KIND of real life...but who says there is only one correct way to live?CLEVERSLEAZOID said:Well thats the very very very very very very extreme outcome, but tbh if you're still spending the majority of your time on games at the age of 40 you're probably not cut out for real life.DividedUnity said:I dont get how people cant put this ahead of their actual life. They could lose their job and end up living with their parents at the age of 40. How does this not scare them?
Saying that though, I'm a manager for a retail supermarket, I use some of my paid holiday if there is a certain game coming out I've been looking forward to, I'm in a healthy relationship and I still find plenty of time to game during the week/weekend after my shifts, racking up plenty of gametime. As long as there is a balance, I see no problem with using holiday for game releases. Skipping work entirely is a no-no though.
Do you have to have kids to have a successful/fulfilling life? Do you have to have a girlfriend/wife/significant other?
Personally I have a girlfriend, and dont I think I ever want kids. Does that mean I dont make the cut? People are different, and have different goals. If I feel like spending my free time at age 40 playing games and enjoying myself instead of taking care of 2-4 kids does that mean I'm not a "proper" adult?
Edit: Sorry for the double post, saw another interesting post I wanted to reply too and found it easier to just press the quote button :\
My personal aim in life atm is to progress enough to become a Store Manager, then smeg off into the gaming section of retail, maybe open my own store. Okay, my life goals are kinda video game orientated, but I've been surrounded by gaming and consoles and computers since a very early age, some kids spend the first few years of their life watching TV, I spent mine in front of an Amstrad.
Secretly I'd like to have one child, just so I can pass on my video gaming legacy/genes. And if I could get my partner to the same skill level as me, well, I think our child would be born with thumbs of pure adamantite hahaha.
My uncle is a complete computer whizz, he spends the majority of his time travelling the world working for different companies [not sure exactly what his job role is, I just know its in computer tech] but he is single and unmarried, has no children, and he said he wouldn't change it for the world. So yes, I do understand that other people have different goals in life and can have as much of a fulfilling life as the guy who is a devoted father to 2 kids.
