Man getting tattoos is painful enough, removing them. Oww. I'm quite happy in keeping them and 30 years from now, I'll still be rocking them... to the day I die.rhizhim said:Snip

I spoke to an Aussie Para at recruiting. He reckons it's not all that great, not the glamorous free fall drops people expect. Mostly fixed, jumping with the 'chute already open, hitting the ground at about 4.5 m/s like the shit they did in WWII.Rawne1980 said:Tribal that covers my upper right arm, from the shoulder down to the elbow and goes down my back. It's still being worked on and will cover the right side of my chest as well when it's done.
Liverpool crest on my left shoulder.
Eagle on my right forearm.
Tribal on my left forearm.
Para wings on my left shoulder blade.
Sour about that those tattoos. I give you a portion of my strength! I hope it is enough.Chemical Alia said:I've got three, but am in the process of removing two of them due to some problems with the colored ink and my skin that never went away after ten years and HOLY SHIT DOES THAT HURT.
This is an amazing idea. Would not put it on my forehead aha, but a small one somewhere would be great.Starik20X6 said:I don't have one, and probably won't get one, but I do think about what I'd get. I think I'd go for small 'icons' representing the things I like (Mario's hat, Batman symbol, Lego brick etc.).
I also thought it'd look incredible to have the Shadow of the Colossus 'weak point' sigil done in that black-light ink so it'd show up under UV lights and glow similar to how they do in the game. I think it'd work especially well on my forehead. That said, I can't see the explanation of it wowing many of the opposite sex:
Girl: "Wow, nice tattoo! What is it?"
Me: "Oh, it's from a game, it's the mark you find on giant monsters that shows their weak spots and- wait, where are you going?"

Oh we have free fall drops. Whether you can class them as fun or not is another matter. Knowing you have a 25 mile tab when you hit the ground takes away the joy.StBishop said:I spoke to an Aussie Para at recruiting. Is that the case in the UK. I plan on moving to the UK in a decade or so, and I am considering joining the British forces or transferring from the ADF if that's possible and my misses isn't against it.
I like the idea of paras very much, but I also like being able to walk. The guy at recruiting pretty much said it's one or the other, no one walks away from the paras.
Yeah, I was aware of the rivalry between paras and marines.Rawne1980 said:Oh we have free fall drops. Whether you can class them as fun or not is another matter. Knowing you have a 25 mile tab when you hit the ground takes away the joy.
I will tell you that the training is tough. Unlike regular infantry the Para's are specialised and training is on par with Royal Marines (who, after joining the Para's, will become your regular sparring buddies. Long standing rivalry with the Para's and Marines, mostly it's good fun and banter like I have with a couple of Marines here but a lot of times it ends in a brawl).
But you can walk away after serving how ever many years you sign up for.
It was 1996 when I joined up and 3 years was the minimum, don't know if it's changed, but you are free to leave then or sign up for longer.
All in all I did 12 years and don't regret staying, in fact it was the best time of my life .... apart from being stabbed in the thigh, that hurt .... or landing in barbed wire after diving over a wall before looking, that hurt too, and made a mess of my left arm (I don't advise diving into barbed wire so kiddies, please don't try that at home .... although if you have barbed wire in your home you have bigger things to worry about I think).
I wouldn't call it "glamorous", it's hard work and you get sent to some shitty places (and some really cold ones) but it's a good life and I met some fantastic people.
You, Sir, have quite a lot of awesome going on there.WaysideMaze said:snip
