"...As a way to relate to the students."

I hope he doesn't mind relating to the students again and gets kicked in the nuts the bastard.

We need more teachers like him. At least he says what he thinks instead of being a pussy and gives cold, hard motivation instead of the usual crap like "Oh honey it will get better". If she cant take adversity and challenges then get out of the school.
A simple "F" or "D" is all that's needed. "Loser" is just outright bullying.

Bullshit, the girl is being bullied plain and simple, back in the old days with the paddle it was punishment for actual misbehaving, what you might get detention for now and was used to get the kid back on track. Calling a kid a loser for the better part of a year is no use at all even if you believe in harsh punishment because its NEVER going to get positive results.

If the teacher was told not to do it once, he shouldn't have done it again. It is okay if you try to put some kind of slang on the papers, but to put only 'loser' and nothing else, that's mean. Incredibly mean.

Did anyone else see the news you missed thing? Those lycra suit people are crazy...

That's terrible. Everyone who is saying "We need to be harsher with kids", this isn't being harsh with them it's bullying. My Latin teacher whom I had for 3 years was "harsh" and "realistic". however he also had discernment, he was able to tell when a student would truly be upset by being called a "worthless sack of excrement" (one of his favorites)and he wouldn't be so blunt to them, he also gave you praise when you really deserved it.

he was wildly popular within the Latin students.

As a side story one of my favorite moment is when he called out a section of class, we were going over vocab and this group of kids who always fail and disrupt his lectures were being jerkasses like normal. he shut the book and said

"You know what? Forget it. You guys only need to know 2 vocab words for the rest over your life, "Paper" and "Plastic""

It was awesome.
That sounds like one of the top ten teachers of earth. But my 5th grade teacher, let's just say, EPIC

So? The teachers at the school I went to would call you a loser to your face.

Ahhhh... memories of a catholic education. Truly the educational version of an S&M fetish.

You guys are being douche bags. She's a child, she'll toughen up in middle school. I'm pretty sure if you were in Elementary school, and you got called a loser or a retard by YOUR teacher I'm sure you'd be ultimately upset aswell.

"Oh, well I got picked on in school and was as tough as nails in the second grade" That's pure bull shit. Our standards as American's has dropped, and our teaching has become soft. Saying she should just live with it is as equal as getting horriably deformed in a way and just "live with it".

First off, I [i/]bet[/i] there's a context to it.
Secondly, the kid and mother should grow the fuck up, I was called far worse in 6th grade (by a teacher) and laughed.
not everybody is the same thought, some people might not like being called a loser.

I see your point, but in high school, kids are at least more skeptical about believing that teachers have any authority at all. Although in middle school, saying something like that would probably debilitate anyone's motivation to do anything.
Still, having run into one of those teachers, and having been a teacher; if you give a child a blanket "You're a loser" then you've lost ANY chance of getting them involved with your class.

Tell them off, fine. Answer them back, fine. But never criticize who they are, because you'll never get that child back.

People that want this kid to "toughen up" and accept abuse from a teacher because they went to catholic school and HAD IT WHEIGH TUFFER obviously got smacked in the head by more than a couple of rulers. Catholic schools that encourage shit like that are evil. They are not to be encouraged or used as a precedent for "less abusive" behavior like berating a fucking twelve year old. It doesn't even look like the kid is a dunce by any means, it looks like the teacher just said, "I perceive you as a loser, therefore you will be marked down." This is very blatantly evil. Just because catholic school made you embittered doesn't mean other kids have to be. Discipline is something to be upheld for the good of students, hatred is something that needs to be stamped out for the good of the race.

Oh please. Tough love. Take it like a man or get the fuck out. Plain and simple.
Yeah, makes sense this statement coming from someone calling themselves "buy teh haloz".

It's a girl in fucking sixth grade, are you kidding me? How the fuck is she supposed to deal with this? It's not going to toughen her up. It's going to fuck her up. Teacher's are supposed to teach and discipline children constructively. What is she supposed to get out of 'loser'?

I pray you don't have kids. They'd be some emotionally messed up people one day having such a tool for a father.

Yeah, you're probably right. My dad went to a catholic school were kids regularly pissed their pants because the nuns wouldn't let them go to the bathroom (1st grade). If things are anything like they were back then, that would explain why people are saying this. Or they didn't watch the video
