Start her with Morrowind. Throw her to the wolves! DROP HER ASS IN THE REAL SHIT!

(And by real shit I don't mean bad... I mean super-hardcore)

A multiplayer-co-op game would be best so you can help her out. The one that's screaming in my head right now is LittleBigPlanet, but that might just be my fanboyism acting up.

My only advice is to start her on a story-mode rather that anything online. The highly competitive nature of online gaming coupled with her first time playing and lack of grasp on the controls will probably embarrass and anger her... Don't do it.

Speaking from personal experience as a bit of a late bloomer into the gaming world... Start on less-complicated games. [My first console was a GameCube, we didn't have much money growing up...] I played stuff like Super Mario Sunshine and migrated on up to stuff like MGS and Mass Effect. FPS gameplay is still a bit odd to me, ie, COD, but I'm working at it. >_< Even stuff like Dragon Age with all the talent points and whatnot is still quite overwhelming.

So don't treat her like an invalid, just start on fun and easy stuff and work your way up.

I've been trying this with my dad, actually (because he wants to). I've found that single player is much more effective as a teaching mechanism; let HIM figure it out. He actually made it all the way through the CoD MW 2 campaign (which granted isn't that much gameplay). Still, he needs a lot of work. Although he's older, so he mainly struggles with analog control and remembering button locations.

Give your gf a good, short single player game to get used to gaming with and then start playing. The only way to learn is to play.

The one question that's on my mind is... HOW?
What games should I start with?
I don't even know where to start >.<
And she really WANTS to...
...help?

alright
I have 360 with:
Soul Calibur IV
Oblivion
L4D (except she hates zombies)
Brutal Legend
Fable 2
Gears of War 2 (We've tried, had lots of fun w/ chainsaws actually)
Play some fable 2 co-op with her. If things get nasty you can always step up and kill all the bad guys and it is a pretty easy rpg so it would be a good starting point.

My girlfriend actually asked me to teach her to play games, so that was a good start. I started with Castle Crashers, cause it doesn't require aiming, which can get some getting used to if you're unfamiliar with controllers and gaming in general.

We should try to teach others about gameing as a hobby not exclude them just because they havn't been playing them for years.

I'm currently teaching my 2 nieces to play vidjamagames so I have SOME insight. I started them off with sonic a simple game just gotta run and jump pretty much then I moved onto mario bit more difficult then I tried zelda and finally a steep climb but worth it Super Smash Bros Brawl. VERY nintendo orientated but teach them these and they can soon figure out fps games and the like sonic and mario taught them skill zelda taught them aiming with a bow and moving in a 3d enviroment and smash bros taught them next to nothing :D

May I recommend a simple addictive game? With extra addiction rolled in?
AKA, Greed Corp on XBLA.

If you want her to be GOOD, then that's all her. Trust me.
It took me three full years of gaming to really understand video games and start playing at a more higher level. If you just wanna have a casual gamer buddy, just...buy a Co-Op game and have fun...

Or Animal Crossing :D

Worst answer ever.

OT: try something she likes say if she likes history try Civ, or hell just anything she has shown an interest in.
