Putting maps up for sale would have been suicide on their part.
But what would really sweeten this deal is if they *****-slapped EA into stop being bosshog tards and started treating their 360 customers with some respect. Coming from a PC player I am saying it is about time everybody got equal access to DLC and drops.
Problem: Microsoft says you HAVE to charge to money for DLCs. I doubt Valve would fill Microsoft's pockets while losing fans.

And the PS3, well, we'll just wait until Steam is released on it.

They all drop as normal. Atm you can only get the Polycounts by buying, but all will now drop (though without the Vintage)

I don't see how this could possibly hurt the game. It just means that if you want to get an item sooner, you can spend your hard-earned cash to get it instead.

So lets see... I pay for a game, and then I'm asked to pay more money. So it's like a good demo. GTFO

Valve has ruined TF2!

I'm ok with this. This will help those who rarely get any good/new random drops.

Its been awhile since I played TF2(thank you Reach), I should get on and play it when I get the chance.

I'm ok with this. I won't use it, seeing as I'm broke, but I can see it being useful for people who NEVER GET F*CKING HATS.

Ok maybe I will use it...

I don't see any problem with this. It's luck, not skill, that determines whether you get an item, so allowing people to save themselves the hassle by paying seems like a good thing. I suppose you could argue that Valve could be on a slippery slope to introducing subscription fees, but I doubt that will happen.

So they added a system for people to get items but don't have the hundreds upon hundreds of hours to play to get the random drops?

Sounds good to me.

since it has no meaning on gameplay, and you can get these items for free on drop.. I see nothing wrong with this, it only means that someone that pays gets the items earlier.. No biggie!

Good for them. I'm always in favour of companies doing their best to make more money.

I'm loving how half the comments clearly show the reader didn't look at anything other than the title

THE TRANSACTION ARE FOR THINGS THAT ARE DROPPED FOR FREE ANYWAY. It's a way of making profit from rich, impatient people

Having said that, I just KNOW they'll put in some code that ensures that the buyer get a random drop of the item they brought for money for days after the purchase. Valve are hilarious like that.

Or it's like an MMO. Or any other game with DLC...oh wait, it's optional...
And it's also able to be crafted, picked up or bought.

And all the stuff you've had originally is now worth the equivalent to money...

Oh how terrible.

Exactly what I was going to say. Except for a few cosmetic items, nothing has to be bought, it can be unlocked through the drop system (which, while still flawed, at least works a lot better than it used to). If you're an impatient person with disposable income you can go buy an item.

Plus they added item trading (for most items) so they have that going for them, which is nice.

I have to be honest when I first saw this news I expected the worst, but in the grand scheme of things it really isn't that bad. It's not like Blizzard making a $25 mount or soemthing to that extreme.

All the complaints will likely be based on the headline. That's one thing I've noticed, the headlines often suggest something really weird or really inflammatory, while the actual story that I'm sure some people don't even read clarifies "Well he didn't actually say that. just something that very loosely sounded like it" or in this case "Those micro transactions won't affect players at all."
