This has already been done with the same technology they described. Darkfall Online. Look it up. FPS, check. Over 1000 people online at the same time, easily been done many times over. Hell go look at some of the videos on youtube and you can see for yourself that it has been done. I hate it when someone tries to claim a first by just copying someone else who has already done it.

I love how MAG gets credit for 256 player servers when Joint Operations had it WAY before they ever did...

Well, it could be interesting to try it, and it's made to break a record, so that's nice.
But a modern-day game with 1000 players on one map? Not gonna work. At least i think so.
But still...would be cool just to try.

you all notice it said "from a web browser" right? So you'll probably be shooting at blocks with less definition than runescape to hit 1000 people simultainiously

EDIT- ok i watched the trailer...its gonna be one huge flashy clusterfuck, thats for damn sure

Cool idea, terrible graphics.

When they build something like this for something like Battlefield and it works, let me know. Sure it'll be impressive for a browser FPS too, but mostly from a technical standpoint and still somewhat too far for "real" application :\
The scale of this game might have driven down the quality of the visuals, but the Unity engine isn't half bad.

I'd love to see 2 huge mobs of 500 guys just open up on each other. That alone would be worth the price of admission.

Hmm, they need to top 3600 to beat Planetside's old record. And that was back in 2004 I believe.

Wow, linkage was hard to find - Google fail. http://www.trickery.net/bb/showthread.php?t=12065

Hardcore FFA on Nuketown?
Haha. As if it wasn't a clusterfuck enough with only ten players.

This sounds good. But it gets to the point where it's debatable wether it adds anything to the experience apart from the gimmick sensation. That's what i got from MAG and that was only 256.

This looks great can't wait to see how other companies will use this tech my hopes is that in historical war games you can now do large scale battles like the battle of the bulge and Normandy ect. also what I think would be amazing is an online game using this system doing a mount and blade style game with 500 vs 500 would be amazing

How many people actually watched the video? It's 500 tanks vs 500 tanks. Still a cool feat and I hope the technology can be used to make higher quality versions in the future.

Been there, done that... oh, not FPS, just your giant-1-shard mmo eve online. Now THAT has adequate graphics for a fight, not this!

Yeah, and WWII Online still has hundreds of active players on every day.

When there's 1000+ players in a game that looks like BF or CoD or Halo, then I'll be impressed. But at least it seems like this innovative technique is a step in the right direction

true, but it was not bad because of lag. it was bad because it didn't understand its own design.
