Recently on the T.V show G4 they were showing a "documentary" on tech fight clubs breaking out around major citys. I watched the show but quickly lost interest because they dont seem to see the answer to the question they were trying to answer. "Why are computer geeks and computer nerds turning into bare nuckle brawlers?" I dont know about how my fellow escapist feel about this but I think this is a pretty stupid question to ask. In my opinion the reason why the are doing this is because "computer geeks" and "nerds" are humans to, but in better terms animals just like any other person, who have primal rage inside of them just like a football player, who just wanna hit something every once in awhile. Most people seem to think nerds or geeks don't have the fight in them to do anything with thier fists, but maybe im just whining what do you'll think about the cause, purpose, or out comes of tech fight clubs? Are they worth having, do we need them, or is it all just a waste of time and energy?

I saw part of this. They were fighting with keyboards until all of the keys fell out. An awesome idea.

Even though now I know what this is, I still would like to stick with my original comment of: "What in sam hill is this?".

Still makes that much sense to me.

Good supporting info link. [http://www.tmrzoo.com/?p=1338]

Offhand? I'd say these techies are just stressed out and burning off steam with wild pranks.

Maybe it was the same reason the characters in the movie Fight Club fought. It was a sort of brotherly atmosphere and it allowed you to unleash all of your frustration and anger, even to be someone else for a bit, or to let another side of you take over for a bit. Eh, sorry for the run-on sentence. Fight Club was an unorthodox version of the comfort groups that Ed Norton went to in the beginning of the movie. Of course, I'm talking about the first half of the movie, in the second half it was all about anti-capitalism.
I don't know, that's one spin.

I pretty much figured that out the first like 5 min the "investigation." I'm not sure why people dont seem to realize, that like nerds and geek are incapable of anger or somthing. It's wierd to me

Just because nerds are nerds doesn't mean they can't fight. Look at all those video games that are just mindless violence just to have mindless violence. Nerds and frat boys enjoy them.

When I was in High School I think many would consider me a nerd, yet I did break a guys nose by smashing his head against lockers, break my hand multiple times on peoples faces, injure people in Rugby, and participate in rounds of fistcuffs. Am I supposed to change my past to take out the fighting or the computer knowledge?

I love the Idea of fight clubs, it gives people a chance to work out their rage. But then if they lose it can have bad reprecussions like revenge killings(yeah I watch Criminal Minds, so sue me). But as long as people don't constantly lose and build up frustration it works great as strees reliever.

Strictly speaking, current-day psychologists are under the impression that you don't work out your rage by expressing it. On the contrary, it seems many emotions which are expressed regularly become stronger. So, in terms of using fight clubs to "work out their rage" it actually doesn't work that way. When psychologists counteract repression, it's usually something else entirely.

I figure these tech fight clubs are harmless so long as these guys are just doing this in the spirit of having fun and letting off steam by being goofy. If they're doing it because they want to prove they can be angry, that's a road to ruin.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I can tell you why I fight.

Over all, its performance art to me. It's the wow factor, the, and the little bird that whispers in my head "This is a lil odd and different and you must have it."

While my other combatants don't walk my path, it's the one I take. I love to fight, I love to get physical, I like the pain, the aggression and when it's all over, the camaraderie. Its one of the few, if not only place a person can go and let it all out and a constructive environment without going to jail or being told, "That's too extreme."

Fighters choose their fighter, and their weapon, and beyond that, anything goes.
No glitz and glam of UFC, no ring girls. No sanctioned bodies of commissions
No fame, no money, just the internal satisfaction that two men when at it and both left a little better than they were before.

I was hoping for a thread on unsactioned, underground robot fights. All the fun of Robot Wars and Battlebots without the presenters.

The first rule of tech fight club, you do not talk about tech fight club!

Honestly though this is the silliest thing I've heard in a long time, fighting for the sake of fighting is pointless atleast with boxing you can justify it because it's a sport.

I saw the video the OP is talking about a while ago on a dutch site, it actually looks pretty fun, but also slightly painful. It's probably also on G4, but I can't be bothered to look for it there. Here's a dodgy link. [http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/331911/8d025114/wk_toetsenbord_meppen.html] Nah, it's cool.

Oh god the bit where the dude pulls the stupid wall attack is hilarious.

Man that looks like fun. Nothing like retarded destruction for letting off steam, even if you are a nerd.
